I have an intermittnet problem with my boiler. When i switch it on it starts up and as ususal after about 6 or 7 secs it fires, problem is it will stop firing intermittently. It might stay light for 3 or 4 mins, flame stops and will restart after the usual 6 or 7 secs. This can happen on and off every few minutes, but it can also stay on for 30-45mins without going out. I checked all the usual things, nozzle looks fine, electrodes are clean and the position looks good, photocell looks fine. Any idea what could be going on, I bleed the system to make sure there was no air in the system. I guess it's either no fuel or no spark. Any ideas or help would be appreciated. Had it serviced about 8 months ago....

    Picture ?

    Kitchen model or Boilerhouse ?

Does it have a snorkle on the burner? Have you tried removing it ?

Fire valve is open fully ??

It's the Kitchen model, it has the snorkle on the burner, I've taken it off when I have taken the burner off the firebox to get at the nozzle. What should I be looking for when I take it off, should I try running it with the snorkle off. Thanks for the reply by the way.

Without the correct equipment your limited in what you can do but take a look on the inside of the snorkle for any sign of slight sooting discoloration ?
You can leave the snorkle off and allow the burner to take air from the room, make sure the windows are open so it can get plenty of air, block off the snorkle, try that!

Thanks Billy, haven't really got the 100 quid for a call out. I'll have a go at what you suggested tonight. Thanks again....

If that cures your problem you will need to look at why you have the problem.

Yeah, got ya, I guess if I find out what is causing the problem I'm half way to fixing it. Thanks

try as billy suggested first if that doesnt work check fire valve is fully open filter is clean at tank also the pump has an internal filter these can clog up as well and cause fuel starvation have you been at the air settings by any chance if overaired you could be having flame off problems but unlikely if it runs for 30mins dirty nozzle
    maybe another possibility
lot of other things as well photocells can be a bitch intermittent coil problems but as billy pointed out hard to diagnose when not at boiler

To be honest I just wanted to try the obvious things first, didn't want to call an engineer out for him to simple fiddle with the photocell and get it working. Will try all that has been suggested and only call an eng if I can't sort it myself. Thanks again.

try as suggested above and see how you go post back later if still in trouble
and maybe we can help further by the way has the boiler been serviced even cleaned recently

Yeah we had it serviced about 8months ago and didn't use it much over the summer. We got a print out from the guy and he said it was A1. Might give it a good clean tonight when i have it out....thanks again.

Would like to see the pump pressure while it is doing this, however, it could be a faulty photocell.

Thanks for all the help lads, messed around with all the stuff ye suggested and it's been running fine since, couldn't put it down to any one thing but the main thing is it's working fine. Thanks again.....

    Hi,
I have a Firebird S boiler that sometimes it turns on by itself even when the CENTAURPLUS C21 controler is off on CH&HW. Last time it happened, I took the controller out from the wall and the boiler was still going... I had to disconnect the fuse to stop it... strange, isn't it? Anyone has any idea what's wrong?

Did this happen in cold weather?
