    Last night was Krampusnacht.

    https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Krampus

According to Austrian/Bavarian tradition, on the night of the 5th December, the Krampus (a horned cloven hoofed deamonic creature) comes and beats/whips/abducts naughty children as a counterpoint to jolly old Saint Nicholas who comes this evening and puts treats in the shoes of good boys and girls.

I think this is a healthy balance that teaches consequence and generally puts the fear of God into the snot nosed little monsters. Krampus is also the star of his own movie just recently released I believe

Do you think we in Ireland should adopt such a tradition? I have a great fondness for the Germanic tradition of the celebration of the terrifying and grotesque in fairytales.

    Yep, Krampus visited me.

That's what I get for eating a 1/2 lb of cheese before bed.

PersonallyI believe that the world would benefit from Krampusnacht being celebrated meself. As long as we can swap the brandy for whiskey.

This sounds like something Dwight Schrute would mention about his upbringing.

Madeline McCann's parents should have tried this story. Let's be honest, it is miles more plausible than the one they are currently sticking to.
