    Hi

We are currently looking at building a single storey side extension onto our end terrace house. Had a architect out to look and he has suggested leaving a sewer vent pipe inside the extension and passing it out through the roof. It is the pipe from the downstairs bathroom, there are two others at the back of the house serving both upstairs bathrooms.

What do people think of this? Once it was boxed off internally it would look fine I suppose. Is blocking it off a complete no no? It is about 15 feet from the next vent

    Thanks

Anyone have any idea on what the best option would be here? I'm pretty much clueless with these things so any help is much appreciated

    Blocking off not an option.
Is the toilet connection to this above or below ground.
Will extension foundations span across sewer pipe?

It's hardly a big job to take it outside when you are putting on an extention.

your architect Must comply with http://www.environ.ie/en/Publications/DevelopmentandHousing/BuildingStandards/FileDownLoad,24906,en.pdf

Hard to tell without site survey

Have you researched: 'Ventilated discharge stacks terminated inside a building when fitted with air admittance valve'?

picture attached, main drain runs from left to right in picture. There is already a vent at the corner of wall on right hand side. Planned extension is to run the full width of house. As I understand it the vent at the right hand side is not much use as the pipes slope down to there.

they mean boxing in the pipe not blocking it. it would still vent above the extension ,

You are correct. The architect has suggested leaving it in situ so that would obviously mean boxing it off internally, I'm not sure if this would look great. I was wondering if blocking it off was an option which a previous poster has said is a non runner

Edit- See that it was you said blocking off was a non runner. What would be the best solution so? Leave it in place and box off?
