Anyone watch the Wolfsburg v Dortmund game? If LVG actually wanted to show the world he has balls then that defence is prone to mistakes. Doubt he will but if the tactics change I have no doubt United would score easily enough

I don't know how anyone could have seen any part of the game yesterday and come to the conclusion "Our problem is LVG's tactics, and our players can score if he lets them attack".

The last three games, we have gone in full on attack mode, and yesterday especially, it was very much down to the players inability to "score easily enough", despite having numerous chances to do so. The players could barely get a shot on target, let alone finish the chances.

Blaming the tactics a few weeks back was entirely understandable, but I feel some people have not gotten so into a rut, the whole "boring" tag is being applied regardless of what actually happens on the field. The problem at the moment very much lies in the fact out creative players have no ability to actually finish off the chances.

Hasn't been mentioned much but Depay looked good when he came on. Created some good chances and worked hard to track back making some lovely tackles in the process. Hoeing fully he can kick on and I genuinely believe he will.

I only saw the motd highlights last night so need to watch the actual match later.
But their highlights showed some nice attacking moves with a good few decent chances.
Martials one that barely skimmed the post swerving the wrong way.
    Same as matas.
Fellaini and Smalling were awfully close as well.

I haven't watched the game though

Fellaini should have been sent off yesterday for that cowardly stamp, not the first time he has done it either

He was excellent , won the ball back a couple of times through sheer determination and lifted the crowd

This seems to be the common refrain these days, we don't know how to score so we need to buy a player who can do it on his own, who doesn't need a consistent creative threat from the rest of the team because he can thrive on being isolated and only having scraps of chances.

Its the most damnable approach I ever heard off. Not only is a superstar like that incredibly difficult to find but surely it would be better to have a team attacking threat rather than relying on one person? Take 5 good players and teach them how to play together rather than wait for one big player to come and score goals?

Are you one of these who thinks that Fergie sprinkled magic dust on a collection of pub footballers and made them title winners, then after midnight the magic wore off and they turned crap again?

If you want you can go through individual footballers and sneer at their later careers, as if the likes of Robin Van Persie needs to be defended, as if the likes of Nani isn't exactly what we need right now. But the original point was that LVG seemingly took over a 7th place team and magically brought them to the dizzy heights of 4th, but that view is simply not accurate and does not reflect the reality of the club he is manager off.

I'm not sneering nor anything and I definitely didn't say they were pub footballers I simply asked where are they or what have they done to shoe they were a superior side??

None of them have shown any sort of form or ability to say they should be in a league winning side and mostly for two reasons the first reason is because some were at retirement age such as rio and vidic and Giggs and scholes, and number two because the likes of cleverly and Nani and Evans were not good enough as they have shown since moving on.

As for ferrgies sprinkle magic dust I don't believe in fairytale but I do belive that a group of players are loyal and go above and beyond for a manager that they have a conection with and if you take the manager out that same group of players won't perform the same. This is a simple thing in any manner of team management be it in sports ir even in the workplace.

As for Nani been what we need now I don't know where you pull that one out of, we need a player that can take the team by the scruff and create chances and drive other players and we need a player that can finish chances Nani only showed in flashes that he was a good player for Us ultimately he was inconsistent and thats why he aint at the club anymore.

    To be honest, meh.
He isn't the only player who is aggressive.
Him and Schweinsteiger are the only 2 players who get stuck into players.

Your idol keane has done worse.

Ya should be having babies with 16 different women and being classy.

Well yeah, I was being sarcastic that he wasn't 'following the herd'. Fair play to him.

16 babies though?? That's higher than the norm, surely!

Massive difference between being aggressive and dirty. Stamping on a player who is sliding on the ground is one of the most cowardly acts in football

    I heard a stat today.

In 2005 we had ten 0-0 results.
In 2015 so far we had eight 0-0 results.

So is throwing your arm into someone's neck like Schweinsteiger.

It's only faux outrage and pushing your classic anti Fellaini agenda.
    Most cowardly. Alright ya.
You would be the first one to be dishing out the cliches that we need to get more stuck in or bemoaning when people pull out of tackles.

It's sport, that crap dosent bother me.

The problem with the team at the moment for me is that we don't have one world class game changing attacking player.

We have young potential such as Martial, Depay and maybe even Lingard who in a couple of years could be magical but atm there isn't one attacking player who the opposite defence looks at and thinks 'this ain't gonna be easy.'

The examples for Barca, Real and Bayern are pretty obvious.
City have Aguero, Silva, De Bruyne and Toure.
    Chelsea have Hazard and Costa.
Arsenal have Sanchez and arguably Ozil/Cazorla.

I think LVG made a big mistake last summer getting rid of the likes of RVP, Falcao, Hernandez and even Wilson and then bringing in a 19 year old and putting all the weight on him.

For the past 3 seasons or so, as we get closer to the transfer windows, we keep hearing of articles stating 'UTD TO GET 200MIL TRANSFER WARCHEST' and we have spent big over the past couple of windows but when will get to the stage we were at with SAF when the squad is stable and each window we just add some fresh young talent here and there and move on some dead useless weight.

I think LVG made a big mistake last summer getting rid of the likes of RVP, Falcao, Hernandez and even Wilson and then bringing in a 19 year old and putting all the weight on him.

I don't think the idea at the time of buying Martial was the weight would be on him. I think it was meant to be on Rooney, but he has been failing to carry it so spectacularly, its gone to our second striker (Martial).

Letting go of RVP and Falcao was absolutely the right move. Both are well past their best, and are struggling worse this year at new teams. Wilson had shown nothing when loaned out to earn a place. Hernandez was a mistake, but in hindsight; his form and ability at the start of the season was dire.

We moved this year from a two striker system to a one striker system, so we simply didn't need 3 players on 250k a week cause at least one if not two would have been bench players, and thats ignoring their massive decline as players. A LOT of people were calling out for Rooney to lead the line; "Stop playing him out of position, put him up front and he'll score 20+ goals easily!". So Rooney was the one chosen to lead the line this summer. Martial was number two, and shouldn't be getting so much game time over Rooney but is because of Rooney's form. Wilson was to be our third. Fellaini and Memphis as 4th and 5th, players you'd only (ordinarily) need to play there in emergencies.

The problem ultimately is that we rolled the dice on Rooney and he has failed us badly so far. If he was showing even a fraction of the form people hoped he would, we wouldn't be having the conversation. But he's utterly failed to nail down that striker position, so we've had to let the weight shift to our number 2 striker who, at his age, should probably only be making sub appearances and starting against lower league teams.

I'm more surprised you judge matches or teams based on a motd highlights and their position on their schedule.

It's such a weird parameter to judge things on.
Do you even watch the games or just read the back of the sun to get your opinion?
I had a season ticket. I go to a lot of our away games in London where I live. And yeah, I watch the games.
While you sit there in your Man United dressing gown drinking tea out of your Man United mug and look out the window occasionally through your Msn a United curtains.

No it's not, we have been a bit better in the last few games, but for large parts of the game yesterday there was absolutely no threat.
It took until Memphis came on for us to create and chances after the 55 min mark.

Btw, Reus is the player to get

Reus has been a player to get for quite a while, shocked he's still there. Probably hanging on for a move to Spain like everyone else!

Story was he was to go to barca but they switched to move for Suarez instead. That and he got crocked before the last WC.

You're bang on though, Reus is a man to get.

Tell me, can you find Manchester on a map?
I can't stand the current set up, that's my opinion and I'm entitled to that. But it seems to me that you can't accept anything that doesn't agree with your own smug agenda.
By the way I'm a supporter, not a fan. There's a huge difference.

I think I need reevaluate my life and how I haven't spent money on any sporting merchandise in the last 15 years.

Do I need to be so angry at a team that it impacts my life?

Hahaha I am an awfully smug arrogant prick at times, but hey, I'm not the guy trying to slag off my fandom.

Fandom/supportership, same thing for a soccer team.

Any more insults for me before you go off to being a better supporter?

Anyways, since we got a pile of ****e on the thread about Van Gaal and quotes, has anyone read something decent in any of the papers?

I assume Mitch would have been along by now to repeat his stuff from last night, backed up by the said quotes in the papers if it was as being represented, but just in case?

This is a pretty **** thread to have an opinion in.
