How to hang xmas lights on exterior wall of house

Hi, The exterior wall of the house is red brick. Over the years I've used small hooks but now I am wondering is there a better way, non permanent also. I like to put some bigger things on the wall maybe also. Thanks

I read before that people use a small dab of glue from a hot glue gun to put lights on exterior brick and apparently it just lifts off later on. Have never tried it myself though !
