    Hi all,

I'm not even sure if I'am posting this in the right place but I'll ask anyway.

Can an employer force you to take holidays hours if the company itself is closed? Basically the company I work for are closed Christmas Eve but this has to be taken as holiday hours. There is no option to take this as unpaid leave. Is this legal?

    Thanks.

Part of your contract of employment I would think. Was in mine at least.

    This might help.

Do you have no holidays days left to take? Is there a reason you would prefer to take them as unpaid, rather than as holidays? When a company is closed altogether over holidays, there is usually a set amount of days taken out of your allowance to cover those days.

Yip, leave dates are at th discretion of the employer but they must take certain situations into consideration such as family commitments. Many companies close at certain times (eg solicitors offices close first two weeks of August when courts are closed) and will require employees to use leave days during those periods.

Yes it's entirely legal and pretty normal for most companies.
