No, a solo run more's the pity. I rarely know in advance when I'm going to get out for a run.

The wavy arms ? It's all the rage. All the cool kids are doing it :D
(see article posted by Dubgal at the top of the page)

He's worried it might give you an edge in the upcoming parkrun ;)

    Friday – S&C, Hills

Level 1 Pilates class followed by a recce of the Fat Turkey 10K route with aquinn. A fab, cold but sunny morning for it and the time flew by in company. Looks like we’re all set for the real thing on the 28th December, eh aquinn ;)?
    • 6.3 miles @ 9:02 (path)

    Saturday & Sunday

Nothing due to a dose of the lurgy. Have been fortunate enough that the last sniffle was in February so I can’t really complain but I admit to feeling very sorry for myself. I did get to attend the premiere of 'The Good Dinosaur' this morning in the Savoy which included a goodie bag with Dino jellies. I'll be saving those for the next half marathon :D

    TOTAL WEEKLY MILES: 19.5

The Fat Turkey was a family event for a couple of years .... there's a great atmosphere at the run, and in the club afterwards. And as aquinn says the t-shirt will be only brilliant (they didn't start giving them out till last year I think).

Did you not win a prize last year?

Sorry to hear about the virus, hope you'll be out on the streets again soon.

(and *now*, bravely, I close the machine and throw myself out into the cold ... brrrr)

hope the lurgy is gone asap! I'll probably join ye for the Fat Turkey but will be a temp0 or MP paced run or something, rather than racing (yipee I can take it 'handy' :D)

First 5K can be a bit rough all right but the 2nd half is great fun!

The t-shirts are enormous though, the small will be down to aquinn's ankles :D. I did win the aul wan's prize last year but that was down to a general lack of aul wans in the race rather than any great racing on my part

    Monday – Easy

A simple out and back along the promenade in the company of aquinn, who at this stage is rivalling TbL with her little black book of running dates :D. Very enjoyable despite the rain, and great to get this done after missing the weekend runs due to the lurgy.
    • 6 miles @ 9:41 incl. 6 strides

    Tuesday – Speed

2K, 1K, 800m, 400m @ 10K – 1500m pace were the instructions. Hmm, open to interpretation but I decided to do the 2K at 10K pace, the 1K at 5K pace, the 800m at 3K and the 400m at mile pace because I’ve never done a 1500m and I doubt it’d be much quicker than a mile.

Had a window this morning/early afternoon so took advantage to get this done during daylight. Messed up the 800m rep on the watch so that’s approximated from what I salvaged from Garmin Connect. This was tough. By the last rep I thought my insides were turning into my outsides. Got some odd looks from people on their lunch break in the park, I was possibly putting them off their sambos.
    • 6.3 miles incl 2K (7:12 min/mile), 1K (6:44 min/mile), 800m (6:32 min/mile), 400m (6:03 min/mile) on grass/tarmac with 400m recoveries

Nice going. I think a few lads looking at that might be "out sick" the day of the St Anne's parkrun smackdown :)

Smackdown? The only thing I remember signing up for is a sub-21 bid, with pacing. Don't recall anything about a race. :p

Me too! I am actually innocent in all of this. It escalated very quickly on KennyG's log. Can't remember who's to blame. FBOT01 most likely :D

As we know parkrun is not a race it is a timed run so any smackdown is against the clock. However, there would appear to be a number of people planning the same smackdown against the same clock on the same day.

Which one beats the clock by the most on the day will, of course, be irrelevant. It will be all about working together to make sure you all achieve your individual goal;)

    Wednesday – S&C, Easy

Level 2 Pilates class, followed by an easy/recovery run which was more of a plod than anything else. Body was tired after Pilates and legs/insides were tired after Tuesday’s session. Had 8 miles on the plan but was in the vicinity of the car after 6 or so miles so took the easy option. Ran out of fuel by about mile 5 too, another good reason to call it and go home to eat!
    • 6.6 miles @ 9:24 (grass, path)

    Thursday – Rest

    Lovely.

    Friday – S&C, Easy

Level 1 Pilates class, and the instructor used spine correctors for the first time (dense foam structures that allow you to extend your spine from a supported seated position). Was a bit wary but back felt great afterwards.

Headed to St.Anne’s and still hadn’t decided whether to do the 2 x 2 mile @ HM pace session on the schedule (same as 2 weeks ago) or just keep it easy ahead of an XC race on Sunday. Easy won out in the end as it started spilling rain 3 minutes into the run and it was wet, mucky and slippy underfoot. Did 2 laps of the park with an extra football pitch to make up the 8 miles. Too wet and soggy to hang around for coffee or lunch so went straight home and stayed in the shower until the hot water ran out :D.

Great to see the training going so well BG!

Have a ball tomorrow. That bit of wind and rain is no bother to hardy XC gals like yourself! Probably makes it even more enjoyable :D

Best of luck & don't be a stick in the mud

Are you kidding? BG complains if there's no muck! She'll be in her element tomorrow!

Thanks all. Woke up with a dodgy hip and a RHR 20 beats above normal so this might not be my finest hour . Will give it a lash anyway. Perfect conditions :D:D

Oh no!!! Is it worth risking? Id worry about the hip in those conditions

    At least its mild...

Be grand. Hip is just stiff I think so will do a good warm up. RHR is probably down to the lurgy outstaying its welcome but I don't feel unwell so risk is minimal. Have fun in Cow Park. Swap horror stories later ?
