Civil service payscale and increments

Been trying to find this out for a while but not getting very far. Could someone tell me what their experience has been. If you enter a payscale between two points what happens at your next incremental date? Ie if I entered between points 1 and 2 ( say I was point 1.5 effectively) at my next incremental date would I move to point 2 or point 3? Thanks to anyone who can help with this. (Also I've been on to my pay section but they are not very forthcoming so please no suggestions of contacting them!)

How are you entering between points on the scale? through promotion? I would assume you just move to the next highest scale, 2 in your example.

I assume it's a promotion? If you're off point between two points, using your example between 1 and 2, you then go on scale to point 2 on a specified date. This is not an increment though, it's your on scale date and is determined as part of the promotion calculation,could be after a few days or close to a year, it varies. Then once you're on scale, your next increment to point 3 would usually be a year from the date you went on scale
