Was just buying oil for the panzer wagon and got 11 litres of Total Quartz 9000 5w40 from micksgarage for €59 delivered using 10% off code from here

    http://promotionalcodes.ie/micksgarage-voucher-code/

Might be of use to somebody else

My first service is due at 15k km. I was looking at how easy it is to change the oil/filter in the golf online and was considering doing it, car now at 9k km. Then I figured it would be a waste of time as car is under warranty and prob will be when I trade it in. May as well just let them do it at the recommended intervals? Any thoughts?

I would let the warranty run out before doing it yourself. Vw are not even that pricey when it comes to servicing so you wouldn't be saving that much.

If you shop around for prices it won't be much more expensive. First service at least will be oil and filter, they usually run €99 deals on those every so often. Keeps the dealer history and all that which is going to important on a Golf R.

Empty stamp on 1st service of a high end golf like that would put any buyer off tbh.

Even with my 11 year old car as it's a performance model i would prefer to let an indy do it and have the stamp in the book to continue the cars biblical service history and collection of receipts.

Got the DPF issue sorted on the C5. Mechanic plugged it in and did a regeneration with it. I wasn't there but apparently it was revving the bollocks out of itself for about 20-30 minutes. Service light gone, too. Delighted with that.

Also got him to do an oil and filter change on it, and give it a bit of a look over in general to make sure it wasn't about to throw up anything i wasn't aware of. He said everything on it was pretty much fine. He did say the diagnostics was throwing up an error relating to the glow plugs, so he reckons there may be one or two of them that are dead, so I'll get them all swapped out soon enough.

Then popped over to Main Citroen dealer and got them to activate the DRLs (I actually quite like the look of them). So all in all I'm a happy camper, with the C5 today. All the above only set me back by €220, which I think was fairly reasonable all in all. I was anticipating to spend a fair bit more. I'm a happy chappy.

Yeah sorry I didn't mean instead of using the dealer. Let the dealer do their thing too and stamp at required intervals. More so for the first service I was thinking doing a change sooner myself. Prob right just to let the dealer network do it all. Might leave it in around 10k km instead.

Had both cars parked in the Cathedral in Galway city today from about 2ish. Came back at 7. Paid 8 euro at the machine for each car, so 16 in total. Then we drive up to the barrier to put the ticket in, to discover that the barriers were left up for the night. So we were free to drive out. Don't think I ever was so pissed off over a waste of 16 euro in my whole life!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 73,552 ✭✭✭✭colm_mcm

I would have paid even if I saw the barrier was up

Bit of a non-eventful rant here chaps.

Returned the Chevy Malibu I had last week as I was moving location and took another rental. Got a GMC Terrain or something or other - no I hadn't heard of it either until Sunday!

Anyway it's one of the faux 4x4's (think along the lines of the Nissan Quashqai?) so hadn't much other choice as I needed something a bit bigger this week. Jump in and usual cheapo plastic American interior but that's grand, the seats are excellent.

Fire her up anyway and alls well, nice hum from the engine I thought, checked and found I'd gotten the 3.6 V6 one with 302bhp. Delighted so I was. Had the same engine in a Charger a few weeks ago and it was a peach.

Good Christ though, 302bhp through the front wheels and a six speed auto is absolutely comical at best. I have never experienced torque steer like it! I mean it's brilliant in a terrible kind of way, but put the foot down from a standstill and it's just a lightfest on the dash!

In a childish way I admit to giggling a little at this but I can't help but feel that GM has no concept of putting that power through the front wheels? I mean, the Mk2 Focus ST needed an LSD with 225bhp through the fronts!

Yes a long rant but it's late, and I'm stuck in a pretty dire diner somewhere in the arse of nowhere. :D

    @KKV RE: Glowplug error.

Don't bother trying to change them yet. They are an absolute bastard in that engine and the plugs are knowing for snapping in the head when trying to take them out.

If the car is starting fine then leave them or it'll be a real job !

Most modern cars are like that as there is an electric air heater to heat cabin air when engine is cold. So that isn't related to the temperature of your engine or coolant.

Congrats on the nct :) no worries till 2018 now.

Engine gets up to temp pretty quick too drove 7 miles to the nct yesterday and temp gauge was up to halfway where it normally stays.

............ I thought the best of all was skodas pricing have they just added on 5k to all their 2011 pricing 21k for a middle of the road Fabia. Basically everything else there was meh :)

€21K for a Fabia sounds a bit alright, I was pricing the new Superb recently, low €30s for a 150bhp 2.0 diesel struck me as fair enough value though.

Surly if he only drives 5km a week that will create problems with a diesel engine down the line, if not already?

Car hasn't moved since Sunday. You'd have to find some excuse to drive it.

That's my homescreen now. If they renamed it 503.com it would be right on the money.

So my harness bar arrived from the US today.
My welding for my seat rails will be done tomorrow.

    Fitment over the weekend!

My Borbet that was damaged is currently in Wheel Wizards and so far I can't recommend them enough, great to deal with!
That should be ready late Friday also!
Once it's back I get the semi-slicks on the fronts and need to make a call on needing tyres for the rear.

The car will be ready in good time for Autoheroes 2 :)

It is standard now but my point is when my parents bought their Octavia in 2011 they paid 20.5k elegance spec, alloys, metallic paint, auto wipers, dual climate, mfsw, a/c, full factory sat nav top of the range at the time and would seriously have out speced that Fabia for less money. Sure a top range Octavia is about 28k euro now.

The retail on your parents Octavia back then was a lot more that €20.5k. Was the car a demo or pre-registeted? Skoda prices have gone up but alright but not to that extent.

Also a 21k Fabia is not a boggo one either.

Your patents Octavia is top of the range?
DSG? AWD? What engine is it? ?
