How'd you guess? He won't let his missus drive it either, she drives her own car only.
We all take the piss out of him for having it and the most underused Sat Nav in the world.

I honestly don't see any point in this other than keeping up appearance. I mean I see the point of a weekend car I'd love one and will eventually get one. But to me a weekend car is something a little bit different that is quick not practical and has sh!t mpg but is ultimately fun.

Something you can pull out of the shed after a long week at work through 20 quid of petrol in it and drive it on for a few hours and put it back in the shed. I mean I've only ever had diesels and am not against them they have there purpose but not as weekend cars. the whole point of a daily driver is to be comfortable on longtrips, economical and practical there not the aim for weekend cars :)

It was the first really cold morning I've been driving this winter. One thing I notice is it was -2 degree c but it took the car about 20km to warm up ie temp gauge to read half way. Now I know diesels take ages to heat up in the cold and I suppose having the heater on full blast wouldn't help but it seemed very extreme to me especially considering it was open road 60-100kmh. I suppose it's not a big deal I just thought it was unusual it wasn't like it was -12 degree c or anything.

Doesn't seem to unusual. I drove at least 15k before the coolant gauge started to move and another few before the oil temp gauge settled to it's normal position.

Dude, you're a lot my Dad. He's retired now but he was a financial controller / analyist. Even the simplest of things have to be thought out to the nth and revisited before he'll make a decision.

    We call him Confusious. ;)

Not really sure if that's a good or bad thing. I'm probably particularly bad with cars but bad enough in general I suppose. It's probably a bad thing in most areas but they seem to appreciate it in work.

I was doing a project during the summer it just envolved gathering some data and doing a few basic engineering calculations. They gave me the project on my own to see how competent I was I suppose. I went over board on it and I remember the shock on the project engineers face when I was going through the report I did on it. I think he commented something like Christ you don't miss much :pac: although the last thing I wanted to do was hand up something that wasnt 100% accurate however it seemed they weren't expecting it to be as accurate.

Mine's the 1.8 Ford diesel. I join the motorway at Crusheen and it takes halfway to Limerick to come up to temperature and I've been driving 10 minutes back roads before that. Cabin doesn't really start getting really warm till after passing Shannon. Diesel engines don't produce a lot of heat compared to petrol and they are a fairly hefty lump of solid pig iron to heat up, so its normal. They really want to run for hundreds of kilometers, my 60 km commute barely wakes it up.

You really don't have much good to say about those Meganes do you? There always seems to be something or other (I don't mean that as a complaint, just an observation).

I am absolutely perplexed why you bought it and got rid of the Golf van....

Ye I suppose it's normal enough. Thinking back my focus was slow enough to warm up.

They have a nice headrest as it is anti whiplash and kind of wraps around so there you go there is a positive :) do I regret changing to a car no. It's great having the rear seats I would never go back to a van ever. I probably only realised how pristine an example my golf was after I sold it you would genuinely struggle to get another mk5 as clean with low mileage and all.

It might come across as I'm a bit negative about the Megane and I still don't know why, it's as reliable as my golf has a lot of the same features, a bit slower but not as bad as I possibly make out. I don't know I just can't really get excited about it at all it just seems like such an a to b commuting tool. At the same time I can't make any definite decisions on what I'd like to replace it with but even if I do it will be the end of next year as I'm way too busy in college and the Megane suits perfectly for going too and from cork. So I might sell it this time next year.

Not motor related, but Turkey shot down a Russian jet today. Getting seriously closer to an all-out war.

I drive about 5 km and the car has warmed up by the time i get there. 2.0 TDi A4.

Garda – Gardaí launch Irish strand of TISPOL "Operation Trivium” on 23/24th November 2015
    • Operation targeting organised crime and criminals from foreign countries who are operating within Ireland and are in turn utilising the road network to target local communities
    Taken from Garda Facebook page.

Would they not take their fingers out of their holes and target organised crime and criminals from all countries, races, genders, marital status etc?

IMO a criminal is a criminal regardless whether he is male, female, black or white

Most modern cars are like that as there is an electric air heater to heat cabin air when engine is cold. So that isn't related to the temperature of your engine or coolant.

Congrats on the nct :) no worries till 2018 now.

Pcp seems to be the only way dealers are selling cars now. I'd say pcp has a lot more to do with the rise in car sales than the split year Reg system. I mean you'd love to know how many people actually buy new cars without any finance probably 10% maybe 20% on hp/ personnel loan and the rest on pcp.

I was at a motor show in Kilkenny on Sunday where almost all the common new makes and models were there. I was so disappointed couldnt get excited about any of the cars there really. Out of all of them the new focus titanium has a serious interior nicest interior ford have made in a long time.

They had an edition 40 golf there 150 bhp diesel I thought it was a nice car and all but 36 k euro ffs it's madness :pac: I mean they can dress it up all they want but its still a fairly standard powered golf. However designed the new shortage should be shot what is the story with the LED headlights you'd nearly physically get sick looking at it honestly the worst thing I've seen in about 10 years it would scare most children Id say. I thought the best of all was skodas pricing have they just added on 5k to all their 2011 pricing 21k for a middle of the road Fabia. Basically everything else there was meh :)
