What a neat job, that turned out really well. Did you score all the bends with an angle grinder and then bend by hand?

Did you weld that up with the blue protective film in place?

Had to score the back of the sheet with a mini grinder with 1mm disc to bend it. I clamped a bit of a plank to the sheet and bent it. It would be too difficult to bend cleanly and it would prob crack or tear otherwise. I can't take the credit for the welding. My mates uncle does metal fabrication so I got him to weld it and unfortunately he left the plastic on too. Suppose it protected it from scratches but was tough to remove. A lot of elbow grease went into removing the burnt plastic and getting the brushed finish.

got a puncture.. first one in 7/8 years commuting in dublin, so pretty good record in fairness

a screw, straight in the middle of the rear - couldnt put it in cleaner if I tried. Hopefully not there too long either.. as it was holding pressure no bother

I've had 3 punctures, all from screws. If I ever see a screw on a road I always pick it up and bin it or throw it to the side. Poxy things

    Cold day today.
Got the R1 back from NDM yesterday after dyno time and quickshifter install.
Went out on it today to try the HM Lite quickshifter kit.
What a piece of kit and the bike pulls so much better through all gears now.No clutch needed.
Flames on the downshifts, and some funny looks from some of the motorists on the M1 today.:pac::D

Also bought a few bottle of this bike cleaner in Dealz.Gave the bike a clean down with it.

It is just as good as Muck Off.A few bikers buying it too and saying good things about it
And it only costs 1 euro 49 cents a bottle.:D

    I think a ytz12s would have fit your R1.
I always go with as big a battery as possible.
Lovely bike BTW, I remember seeing it on Donedeal a while back.beautiful!;)

Think you might be right. The 12S is 17mm higher though,so might be a very tight fit??

    YTZ10S
    L-150
    W-87
    H-93

    YTZ12S

    L-150
    W-87

I'd say 17mm would be ok but you'd probably find out for sure on an R1 forum.
You won't need a new one now anyway!:)

Fitted Osram Cool Blue Intense bulbs to the R1 today.
Alot whiter and brighter than the OEM bulbs.
Just need to sort out the side lights now.

Bike went into bikeshop today to have Yamaha recall work done on it.
Headlight loom needs to be replaced with a better and more insulated loom.
Couple of bikes in USA had melted headlights caused by arcing of the loom and connectors.
So Yamaha issued a recall for 09-12 big bang R1s.

Also ordered 2 sets of these cool blue w5w side light bulbs to match the main headlight bulbs in the R1.

They are 21 euro on Powerbulbs website.

Also had the recall work done on the R1 today.New headlight loom and headlight caps fitted fitted by dealership for free.

Much of a difference? Would you recommend?

Yes,I would recommend the Cool Blue Intense bulbs as your main beams.

I had several cars pulling in to let me pass on the M50 the other evening.
Had a lad in a 131 Audi down at the M50/M1 interface talking to me while the lights were red.

He said that the lights were very white and bright on a bike, and that he saw my bike comming up behind him from a fair long distance back.
Asked me what lights they were,as hes a biker himself and wants to change the bulbs on his Triumph.:)

I also noticed a big difference on my way out to Skerries on the back roads later that night, much better vision at night on unlit back roads.:D
