    Hello

I am looking for the name of someone that scans sheep in the Carnaross/Kells area. If anyone knows someone that provides this service I would be most grateful to get their details

    Thanks

Scanned 18 last week, 1 trip, 2 didn't register as inside 30 days, 3 singles (2 could be doubles as early), all rest are doubles.
First lambing in Jan, last about Paddy's.
    Think I'll sponge next year.

I have my Kiwi Scanner coming on Dec10th, the ewes will be around 70-90 days in lamb, but the ewe lambs will only be between 30 -50 days in lamb. should i get my ewe lambs scanned as well or is it a waste of time when they are not in lamb too long? This man is very good and i wont be getting him back as hes coming from Rosscomon, i only have 17 ewe lambs any way. but wouldnt mind knowing whats in them. i have them raddled 2 colours so i know whats early and late anyway, just want to know singles and doubles

They'll be able to see from 30 days, you should be fine to do all.

Charolais0153, thanks for that. I managed to get a local lad in the end. Ram let out on the 10th of Sept. 4 triplets, 15 twins, 6 singles, 2 lates and 2 empty. Lambing from Feb on with all bar the 4 hopefully lambing in Feb/early March. €40 which I was happy with given he was longer setting up than scanning !

    Did you sponge them?
How did you get it good & compact, if you didn't

Farrell, didn't sponge them so would have to put it down to luck. We flushed them well and they are young ewes with a very eager ram lamb. He had a handy first week but made up for it in the next few weeks. In thruth next Feb will be acid test for how compact lambing is. Mind you we only have 29 ewes anymore and I would probably crack up:D

I've a bunch of 220 ewes here that I put the rams out on the 4th oct, then put raddles on the 25th and only 3 have been marked since.......scanning will be interesting in that bunch

You left it 21 days, I'd of thought you'd of had the rams prepped.
Would you give different colours to different Rams, or all the same & change every 17 days?

I don't like gathering them for raddles so only put a colour on at 21 days and leave it at that,I believe they should be left alone at mating, scanner will tell me the really late ones

And experience will tell you the signs.
While I've little experience, so a more accurate timing will tell me when to pay closer attention

We used to sponge ewes here and serve them all the one day and so we'd have an exact service date, yet from the first to the last would always be a week
