Leaving aside the 'legalise' debate, I'm more interested in posters correctly predicting the run of this case through the 'system'

Defence cliche bingo if you will

We start with what we know, 55 yo male.

    - free legal aid, of course.
    - bail to be granted, of course.
    - grandfather?
    - on disability?
    - was told to drive the vehicle to pay off a drug debt for a relative
    - won't reveal who told them to move said vehicle for 'fear of their life'

Feel free to add the inevitable excuses and when trial time rolls around we can have a proper round of 'legal defence and excuses bingo'

    Rules:
    -You can't post contradictory excuses
    - relatives and friends of the perp excluded

A barman working for one year will have caused more health and social problems than this guy. I don't smoke weed but I don't allow the law to tell me what's right and wrong. He's actually doing nothing morally wrong so I hope he gets off.

You're completely right, I'm sure he was going to declare that €400k as income.

Because there's no carcinogens in a joint.

seriously that's one of the reasons Ireland is in the sad state it is in .
Irish people see the laws as a suggestion that the may or may not choose to follow

a weak justice system has let to a arrogant and feckless nation of selfish people

    AH and outrage bingo.

Random guy arrested on some random charge. Before ever knowing the outcome, and completely ignorant of the actual law, sentencing trends etc. what will AHers get into a tizzy about?

    1. Free legal aid
    2. Bail laws
    3. "Judges in their ivory towers"
    4. The Gardai
    5. The prison system

I lived in a country where homosexuality was illegal. Laws against cannabis make as much sense. I think we have to pick which laws to follow tbh.

so why not work to change them instead of disregarding them.

fair amount of difference between being gay and smoking weed

Well I don't have a problem with either violation of the law TBH.

Do you think gay people should stop breaking the law in these countries and just work to change them?

The topic is in relation to a nonsensical law. I don't see how it's changed topic.

The OP specifically said to leave out the 'legalise' dimension. But sure look, carry on; the soapbox is empty.

Aw you must have forgotten to read the second line of my post

here it is again to clarify

"fair amount of difference between being gay and smoking weed"

I'm not talking about changing it. I'm responding to the OP's moral outrage against the man. I'm stating that moral outrage makes no sense and I'm giving the reason why.

No I didn't. I didn't see the point of it? Both are deemed immoral/dangerous by some people and made illegal in some parts of the world.

Shocked you missed this one out:

    6: The defence lawyer

How can he sleep at night? Would he be so quick to perform one of the absolutely essential parts of any justice system if the perp was outside his children's creche handing out free reefers of potsticks to get his kids addicted???!?

Jaysus, no wonder da cunthry's ruined!

I love listening to people vomit out that cliche. My aunt was a champion for it. Someone doesn't reprimand their cantankerous kid in a shop or someone drives through a red light....."arrra, no wonder the country's in the state it's in"

I love the cognitive dissonance that pops up in this thread. Don't break the law just try and change it. Someone points out a law they disagree with and they say it's different. Primarily because they disagree with one law and not another.

You're incapable of reading the OP and comprehending the instructions, it baffles me anyone would engage you...
