When you have your dinner do you eat your favourite food first or last?

When I have my dinner I always eat my favourite food first, working my way along to my least favourite food, and I've always done this. My OH, on the other hand, eats her favourite last, savouring it, and eats the food she least likes first.

I also tend to be someone who is quite impatient and I need instant gratification, I am terrible waiting for surprises (I have to know what it is) and I always want to open my Christmas and birthday presents early.

So people of After Hours, what do you eat first, favourite or least favourite food? Are you the type of person who can't wait to open a present or do you savour the anticipation?

I eat it all at the same time. ie. if eating potatoes, carrots, parsnips and steak I'd have a little of each on the fork. Only way to eat the dinner IMO. It'd be a bit boring if you only ate it one food type at a time IMO

All depends, if it's a home cooked Sunday roast I'll save the best until last; the roast potatoes.

In sweet and sour chicken, I always eat the sweet first and leave the sour till after.

I'll eat the baked beans first, leaving the (by then) tomato sauce impregnated toast til last.

I'll eat a bit of everything as I go (not necessarily at the same time on the fork though), just to have a nice variety of tastes. But I always make sure to leave some of the best bits for last :D

Meat last, all the yucky veg and spuds/pasta/rice in combination till only the beautiful, glorious, fabulous, fantastic meat left to savour:)

    Hungry now:pac:

I always easy my favorite things last and the parts I don't like(veg) first. The stuff you don't like is always even worse if it has gotten cool. I eat it fast and then take my time over the stuff I like.

I'm making myself hungry as well now! I collected a pizza from Milanos earlier though that I will tuck into in a while, can't wait :D

I eat my favourite last in my own house, but in someone else's I eat it first for fear of them thinking I like it and giving me more.

Now come to think of it, I usually save the best till last but I may try this new phenomenon of eating a bit of everything at once

I'll just have to pick off the not-so-nice stuff, it has to be done! :p

I just eat steak, so it doesn't matter if I eat it first or last.

I always leave it until last. But then by the time I get to it, I'm usually stuffed and I can't fit it in.

Ah I just realised the second half of the OP.

I refuse to open any presents before the event, be it Christmas or my very important birthday. It's bad luck and you will die if you open them beforehand.

    Favourite first.

If there's no-one else around to judge, I'll even begin with dessert.

The only thing I can think of is if I get a Big Mac meal (treat) I eat the chips first then dig into the burger, leaving the best thing till last.

Bit of this, bit of that, then a bit of the other. To be honest, if I don't really like something, it won't be on my plate or I'll leave it behind. (Spuds/rice/bread I'm looking at you)

Depends on the meal, but usually all the others bits together, and then the best bit to finish.

With regards to presents, I'll wait, but if I have to open presents in front of the person who gave it, I usually painstakingly and very slowly remove every bit of sellotape to the extent that most people in the room will be more than trivially annoyed.

I think the question was about regular meals, not fancy-schmancy Michelin level meals that are basically works of art.

I'm all over the perfect bite. A little bit of everything on ones fork.

This thread reminds of the time I called up to my mates house to go to the pub with him.

When I arrived at his house his wife had barricaded herself in the bedroom with her JRT , Buddy also known as "that little ****in' bastard" by my mate.

My mate was having his dinner earlier and like some of the previous posters he liked to keep his favourite food to last .... his steak.

All that was left of his plate was his steak when got up to get himself a
beer , apparently the dog moved like a ninja jumping up onto a chair and onto the table grabbing the steak and legging it up the stairs.

We had to drink lots of beer that night.

both. Generally favorite first, mixed in the middle, then keep a little of the favorite till last. How could you do anything else.

I eat one bite of everything first. Then I start with my least favourite and eat all of that, and so on, until my absolute favourite is left til last. On another note, I cannot bear for anything to be mixed, or even touching off anything else. So before I eat my dinner, I usually do some 'plate admin', where I push things around so that there are clear boundaries between everything. Then I fill up the gaps with rivers of yummy gravy :P If I find, say, a runaway pea under a piece of meat, that got overlooked during the 'admin' process, I go nuts!

I save the best for last, never thought about it before, but I like to enjoy every mouthful.

I cover my head with a linen napkin when eating mine.

Chips then Burger, if you're full, you'll always eat the burger. If you ate the burger first, you'll leave chips behind. Far from chip leftovers I was raised.
