Dunno - maybe it's Humphrey Gilbert - in 1569 he came up with a great way to deal with Irish 'rebels' during the Desmond Rebellion.

Terror has been a factor of every 'war' so I don't think IS are doing anything but follow in the footsteps of the psychos who went before them from all creeds and cultures.

Or perhaps it's the actions of U.S. troops in Vietnam when they massacred most of the inhabitant of My Lai in 1968.

Or maybe it's Reginald Dyer who ordered his troops to open fire in Amritsar in 1919 killing hundreds of unarmed men, women and children.

Terror has always been a recognized military tactic - the difference now is that IS are adroit in employing social media to disseminate the images.

I don't even remember the original point, at this stage. Congratulations.

By that logic, it would mean there are at least 2 anti-semites on a football pitch for every match in Germany.

Germany isn't the best country for football hooliganism to be fair.

It seems a pretty big coincidence if it isn't, and the French authorities have previous when it comes to downplaying Islamist attacks as being something other than what they clearly are.

That's certainly a possibility but trains have derailed before without the need for terrorism & sometimes tragedies do occur at the same time as other bad stuff is going on. Let's wait & see what further details emerge.

    Theres a deafening silence here
    on the whole topic.
A few threads, even one offering sympathy at the inevitable backlash have been deleted within minutes.

What would you like them to do? Every Muslim on boards come out and tell you how they don't agree with what has happened?

Genuine question to anyone: given we're buying their oil, why would Qatar and SA want to sponsor terrorism in the west?

It isn't the Governments themselves doing this, it's wealthy individuals with ties to the ruling families. The West has put a lot of pressure to curb this, and the new King of Saudi Arabia has allegedly been trying to reign it in.

They're ideologically pre-disposed and have too much money for their own good.

Europe is at war now sadly.

Lets all give France the support it requires to deal with these animals.

How are you supporting France ?

    Ah...no...
But seeing as we are talking about it dontcha kinda think it would be a topic of discussion amongst followers of the faith being vilified...just an ickle bit?
Whats odd is that any attempt TO talk about it is being deleted.

I'm not sure about the logic behind Saudi or Qatari support for ISIS (not even sure if it's necessarily a thing, although I wouldn't be surprised) but the general theory behind similar support for Al-Qaeda was the many different factions in the ruling house of Saudi Arabia, as well as a desire to appease certain sections of their population that subscribed to the tenets of Wahhabism. ISIS seem to be even more fanatical than Al-Qaeda, but as far as I know, their ideology is derived from Wahhabism so maybe the same factors are at play here.

It's already been said. For all the peaceful and good Muslims to out and stand up to the recruiters that radicalise young men in their community. They would be well known in their community. Doing nothing is allowing it to happen.

I didn't jump to any conclusions about you mate, nor do I lack knowledge. This is an English language forum and subsequently words here carry their English language meaning. You can try to dress it up with any variety of rubbish that you so choose but the fact remains that here we are speaking in English. Different words have different meanings in different settings and the meaning of the word Fuhrer in an anglophone setting is clear.

Maybe you should respond to his claims of antisemitism rather than reporting to an ad hominem to hide the ugly truth.

The only thing ugly on here are those manipulating the tragic circumstances of last night to pursue a racist crusade.

Those spouting ignorant inbred rubbish about how all Muslims are somehow guilty for what happened last night really ought to read the article on page 6 of The Daily Mail today "The Angelic Boy Who Grew Up To Be A Monster" and pay attention to what the devout Muslim father of Jihadi John told his son when he told him he was going to Syria:

"Not even his parents will mourn Jihadi John's death.

'He is a dog, an animal and a terrorist', said father Jassem Emwazi. He described how his son had asked for his blessing to travel to Syria - and said he had responded: 'F*** you, I hope you die before you get there'".

All Muslims same... yeah right .

Seems it has been tried before. A team of men equipped with grinders and shovels could cut out a few foot of track in a relatively short space of time on a quiet line.

That video should win some prizes, incredible footage and it is the type of thing most people don't see. Absolute chaos and still you see people caring for others even if it might put themselves in danger. That is pure instincts which have been in man since time began.

By saying we need to support France. What do you want me to do exactly? I'm giving moral support. I also suggest that intelligence agencies need to work together and work harder. We also need to support the repatriation of dangerous individuals back to whatever rock they climbed out from under and internment without trial possibly should be encouraged where some people offer a real threat.

Its always late reacting to events like this. Why bother waiting until it happens again? There are thousands of disaffected potential jihadists in France and its only a matter of time before it happens again....and again....and again.

That's using it in a German language context which is completely different.

Explain to me why, if I were to walk though Dublin with a tshirt with a Celtic cross on it nothing would happen to me but if I was to walk through Rome or Berlin I could potentially be liable to arrest?

Because things mean different things depending on the context and here, on Boards, an English language forum, the word Fuhrer only has one connotation.

Clearly not perfect. How can a fictional fantasy be fine if it leads in any way to people killing others ? The problem is Islam, not the people.

If it is confirmed that at least some of the attackers were refugees then there are a few European leaders whose political future will be very much in doubt, Merkel in first place. That may be unfair, given the impossibility (both moral & practical) of doing nothing in the face of the ME/Maghreb crisis but I doubt a traumatised electorate will see it that way.

Not sure what the point of this comment is, are you criticizing the people running for their lives?

The scary thing about these attacks is now that they are targeting sports events and music events too, one of the attacks happened at Bataclan during a Eagles of Death Metal concert, so sports fans and music fans are also looked at, as infidels. What next, an attack on Glastonbury or Coachella festival or Wimbledon.
