I bought a travel mug on amazon which arrived today and it's wonderful and all but it's 470ml capacity and my cafetiere gives me 230ish ml of coffee

generally I use 10g ground coffee in the cafetiere and it does the job, so I was wondering would it be the same (or close enough) in terms of flavour and caffeine if I were to use 20g in the cafetiere and then just fill up the travel mug with hot water?

it seems like it should be the same, but I dunno... science and stuff, you can never be sure.

I know it's kind of a ridiculous question but I'm quite sensitive to caffeine and even though I take theanine with my coffee to help me deal with it, I'm still quite wary of taking too much in at any one time.

I suggest you try it. I know that I do that with the aeropress - sometimes I need to make an extra cup, so I just make the coffee extra strong and top up with hot water.

yeah i've been doing that. it does the job, i much prefer sipping coffee over an hour or two than drinking it quickly and being too amped up

my contigo broke this morning though after only having it a week :( hopefully the replacement arrives from amazon soon

Nearly always do the same, which ever way I make my coffee,

Double shot of espresso from the machine, top up with off the boil water.

Aeropress, top up with off the boil water.
