Reports that "Safety Check", a Facebook app launched a few weeks ago to help survivors of the earthquakes in Pakistan & Afghanistan is being used for the first time in France (possibly in Europe?) to help people in the affected zones let their friends know that they've reached a place of safety. Everyone with a smartphone & FB app in the affected areas has received a message asking them to confirm they're ok.

Saw this - a friend who lives in Paris was tagged as "safe"

IRA for all their horrors and crimes at least had a goal of equal rights for Catholics and an united Ireland and had a clear enemy. ISIS goal is mass killings and kill everyone all over the world who doesn't think like them. They have no achievable goal besides death.

    Their ideal world???

if you see a gun wielding jihadist on the news the chances are it's a French made gun. .

    Example?

So the west is 100% responsible.

Are the guys with the guns not even 5% responsible?

Both are responsible. This isn't about apportioning blame, it's about preventing sh!t like this from happening in the future. Brute force is one largely unsuccessful way to do that as has been seen widely over the last ten years. Another is to stop antagonising an entire ethnic demographic by treating their countries and their countries of origin like Western resource farms.

Off topic but in alot of peoples eyes the british army are indeed a terrorist organisation.

Back on topic, this is disgraceful, i cannot believe in Paris the deathtoll is this high, jesus christ.

The western governments need to stop pandering to these scumbags and just go into iraq and wherever else and hunt these groups down once and for all, these groups dont want peace, all they want is dead westerners.

To be fair they'll often settle for plenty of dead "Rafidah", their name for the Shias Sunni extremists have been busily slaughtering for the past few years in Iraq. They're also quite fond of killing the Yazidis, who see themselves as Muslims but who some other sects regard as "devil worshippers".

The IRA gave up their weapons and always had a strict policy of targeting military officers not civilians. It is extremely unlikely ISIS would do anything of the sort.

Exactly besides at least the IRA had a goal which frankly most would agree with, just not the methods they used of course ISIS have no cause they only wish to see people die.

I never said the west was 100% responsible.

He asked where our approach has gotten us and I pointed out the fact that France has joined with the UK and US in the Middle East campaigns and this is why they are being targeted, and not say Ireland or Switzerland. That does not mean the nutters have a right to do this - they don't. And they ought to be stopped.

Please explain Mohammed, inventor of Islam, and his murderous rampage across Arabia in the years 628 to 632, and how it was the " Wests " fault.

AK47 is one of the most commonly available weapons going, it's so popular because they are cheap and reliable as hell. Attaching a laser sight isn't a very hard thing to do. It doesn't really matter what weapon they are using, bullets are bullets at the end of the day.

Surely to Isis supporters Westerners are terrorists.

But we'are not. Neither are legitimate armies

Bloody Sunday was an act of terrorism by a legitimate army, just because it is legitimate doesnt mean they dont carry out attrocities.

Anyway, regarding tonights events, we all have targets painted on us as europeans, ISIS does not care about our way of life, expect plenty more of these attacks on "soft targets" to occur unfortunately!

Still cant get my head around what happened tonight

All of the hospitals in France are moving to a nationwide emergency plan - BBC.

This is just a tragic and sickening attack for the people in Paris. May love prevail among the innocent people helping their loved ones there tonight.

RIP to all the victims. :(

If I could I would disband all religions. All through history they have been so misinterpreted and twisted to cause people to turn on their fellow human being for the sake of some belief in an imaginary friend....totally sickening

People are people & some people love to cause trouble.

Religion is a convenient excuse for the ills of the world.

Intelligent & manipulative troublemakers leading an uneducated & sometimes unbright mass of followers are the cause of each & every war/bad situation since the dawn of time.

It's time these troublemakers are weeded out, by any means necessary for society to have any chance to progress.
