That'l do me. I am essentially only a graduate anyway and my current wage wouldn't be amazing. I'm in an ok place to take a financial hit as i've no kids etc, only outgoing is the rent really.

Would love it as a job. I'm doing sales with a much more mediocre product at the moment but the buzz of sales is quite good when you make a good sale, reach a target etc.

I bought a 2004 Volkswagen Golf 1.9tdi (mk4) from a dealership here in Waterford. Reasonably low mileage, new NCT, is in a very good condition and got it at a decent price!

    Oh very nice, spec?

Its the S (or Sport) model so it has central locking, sunroof, electric windows etc.
All I have to get are a set of alloys for it (possibly the set that were on the gti or gttdi model of that era).

Great car to drive on the road. I only had the Corolla for 5 months so Im hoping to have this one a bit longer :pac:

Pretty S sure doesn't stand for sport on a Golf

Good luck with the new car. Hope it's good to you.

Thought you were getting that 540i :pac: ?

Im holding off for a week or so as 8k landed for a 2001 non M5 E39 is abit expensive i think you will agree.

Another one has come up that would come in just under 7 which looks a possibility.

Kinda between the idea of a 540i and 645ci atm.

I think the S is the UK standard model.
Much as everyone gives out about them, for the year it's probably one of the nicest cars in that class to be in.

If you know the UK reg, you can check the old mot results online for free.

I wouldve preferred a diesel Corolla but any that I came across was a tad bit out of budget or all had high mileage. Golf was my second option and it was very handy to get this one as the garage is a 2 minute drive from where im in college.

I must ask the salesman does he know it, it would be interesting to check out. It passed NCT about 2 weeks ago.

It's written on the reg cert.

Sounds like a nice car. This garage in Waterford is not by any chance called a mans name first letter E surname starting with G is it ?

Not sure which garage you are talking about but I bought from a well-established dealership. Not sure of the owners name, I was only dealing with one of the salesmen there

Ah no it's not the best place in I'm thinking of is actually the guys name with car sales written after it. Should be a good car for munching up the miles I know a good few people that have mk4s.

Junior sales normally starts around €20k with no commission until you're trained up. The use of the word 'graduate' in this case would make me suspect they'll pay even less, i.e. internship.

Hope that's not the case though and good luck with the interview. :)

What would an average salesman with experience working in a main dealer selling an average amount of new and used cars a year make 35-40k I would think but could be wrong. It's something I've always wondered as some people say car salesmen are well paid others say they are not.

Anyway best of luck with the interview tfb the hardest part is the interview im sure once you land the job you would excel at it as if your passionate it always makes for someone that's great at what they do regardless of the sector/job.

Don't get me wrong, I love selling and I love cars, so it'd suit me down to a tee. It's not the kind of times where you can be too optimistic about getting a job from the interview stages, for all I know the job is gone and they are just saving face and ticking boxes by interviewing. I'm probably up against lads with twice the experience etc.

Oh sure nothing is guaranteed and it's not exactly the easiest industry to get a job in at the moment. But you have a degree and lots of past experience in the industry which is more than a lot of lads will have that are applying for it. I'm sure you've done loads of interviews so you don't need me to say it but it is important be be positive and sure how excited /interested you would be about the job.

Would vary massively on site / brand / volume. Could be anything from €30k to €60k+ I guess.

    €8k for an E39 that's not an M5..?

Good grief that's expensive. You surely buy a Irish plate M5 for that money with 400+ bhp...

Depends. Basic in most places is about €20-€25k. Commission made on cars is absolutely negligible from what I have seen. You really need to be selling properly and consistently to make good money. A lot of smoke and mirrors going on in the premium dealerships.

Much more money in other types of machinery...;)

Maybe so but finding a clean unabused E36 M3 or E39 M5 is nigh on impossible here. A 540 Sport has acres of power, handles well (albeit not as good as a proper M) and is a whole lot easier to live with, especially if you're close on maxing your budget.

As i said to you while up in the big aul shmoke.

I wouldn't be prepared to buy a 9k euro M5 without having atleast 3k in reserve as if the last owner(s) skimped on servicing and brake discs and pads clutch kit and serviee II came up together you are literally talking 5k euros frontloaded on a car you would need daily for work.

Great cars but abit more than i would be willing to take a chance on.

I would be happy enough to spend 6.5k on a really clean UK 540i msport if it had the right spec/colour/milage combo but 8k is pushing it even for the beauty i was considering.

I would have though the commission on selling new cars would be good enough. I had a feeling it wouldn't be great on secondhand cars. I suppose it's an uncertain weekly wage which is the down side. But as you said if your good at it and sell consistently there is money to be made. Plenty of lads at it that love it and would do nothing else I'd imagine it's a great adrenaline rush when you sell a car.

Ya, there's two types of gt alloys. Personally I prefer the first ones, they're an inch bigger rim too.
