    Fantastic.

So i can get my coffee in a red cup together with an halal footlong from Subway?
Cant be too careful not offending someone these days as it is so ****ing easy

It is, like people getting offended by the yearly design on a coffee chain's cup. Despite them having cups which were just red with a pattern on it before.

You should find a subway which does halal and buy everything, that will show them.

Is this another case of Christians not being pandered to and getting special privilage = Discrimination?

Not true. Some hold liquid others protect your balls when you play sport. Some protect your balls when you play sport and then hold liquid when you win.

As a Christian this annoys me. Why would we ever want to be associated with Starbucks? Their coffee was clearly forged by Lucifer himself in the pit of hell.

I'm not cool enough or moral enough to hate Starbucks so I love their Christmassy drinks with the mountains of whipped cream on top and quite a big fan of their pumpkin spice lattes.

They're obsessed with not offending people stateside when it comes to Christmas or "the holidays" should I say. I think in a general sense it's just not as big a deal to them, they're a lot more religiously diverse and Thanksgiving is far more celebrated than Christmas IME. I can see how all the big brands are following suit with watering down the religious connotations. Sure they'd sue you for breathing over there.

I wish these Christians would stop trying to ruin our Yule.

I was filled with a rather disturbing rage at all the people that think that this is even an issue, but then I remembered that I refuse to drink a pint of Guinness from one of their ridiculous glasses.

Can someone help me square that circle?

I watched a video on FB about this. The guy in the video was going mad and telling people to still go into the store, still buy coffee but when the barrista ask you your name, you say Merry Christmas. That makes them decorate your cup apparently because they have to write those 2 words on it.

That's right, hit them where it hurts, their sharpies will be out of ink in no time.

If I actually liked Starbucks coffee I wouldn't give a toss about it being "uncool" (would anyone past early 20s really care about that "cool"/"uncool" stuff?) and corporate (although I don't like seeing so many Starbucks spring up - don't want to see the smaller places go out of business) but it's awful coffee in my opinion. I'm sure there's independent coffee I'd find awful too.

The outrage should be about christmas stuff at the beginning of November.

I scrolled past a couple of posts about this cup issue on Facebook, without reading any of it. I assumed people were outraged because they were using the holiday cups so early in the year.

What's worse is that they only removed the images of snowmen, snowflakes and reindeer etc -- you know all the Christian stuff.

If anything it could be argued that they're playing down the commercialization of a public holiday by not having themed cups (although red is a 'christmas colour' it's simple and not in your face).

Bizarre story. Empty vessels and all that.

Given the strength of the Christian dollar in the States I'm actually surprised that (as far as I've heard) no rival chains have attempted to cash in on this controversy. A well advertised line of "Baby Jesus Lattés" or something similar for the Christmas season would no doubt attract tons of Conservative custom.

Starbucks have craved themselves a niche. They are the only major player in the high priced coffee in the US. They dont really have competition other than maybe mcdonalds. But they still arent a level playing field.

I can imagine most Starbucks customers are educated liberals. They give a **** about it nothing be "Christian". Only the toothless crowd from the deep south protesting on social media, who I imagine dont have the income to buy starbucks

I actually find it refreshing for a company not to exploit religious holidays for sales. There is too many US companies are fixated on selling according to whatever holiday is next eg easter, halloween

They would probably complain about that too. Conservative Christians are never happy. You'd be forgiven for thinking they actually enjoy being offended.

And they don't really have any close competitors.

Lots of wealthy conservatives actually. They mightn't be the force they used to be but if you think that the Christian Right is "only the toothless crowd" you'd be very much mistaken. There are also plenty of financially struggling liberals in the US, believe it or not.

You folks ought to look up the Chik-Fil-A gay marriage controversy. If there's one thing conservatives will march in multitudes to do, its vote with their wallets one way or the other.

when they ask you your name say "Merry Christmas", so they'll write it on the cup and have to say "Merry Christmas" when your coffee is ready.

Christmas cups and christmas cheer in one pop!

Something like people not cleaning up after their dogs is a bigger problem than the colo(u)r of a coffee cup. But there are lots of issues that don't get anywhere near the coverage this is getting, it's a pretty sad reflection on society. And when you have someone that aspires to be the next president of the USA coming out and stating that people should boycott Starbucks then something is not right.

Starbucks has took over in Dublin, there's virtually one on every street in
The city centre. I personally would rank their coffee among the best but there is some really good smaller chains & independent cafes..Costa coffe tastes like an unwiped arse

So you've tasted an unwiped arse, interesting.

If you want to get into it, you got to get out of it. (Hawkwind 1982)
