I don't need any Android functionality and I don't need a record function, just a bog standard (HD) satellite box.

i would highly rate this Unit , its Small ( can be hid behind flat screen ) , impresive remote control response , great build quaility , i would sugges that you do get it " pre-programed , if you buy from freetv.ie , i have installed dozens of these Units , and never had a problem with them , another Unit i would recommend is the " Amiko Mini Combo , there are Very good Combo boxes for there price range

We do no use DVB-T2 for HD Saorview channels in Ireland. We use DVB-T.

Don't know anything about this box really, but I see they have a serial line utility on their website. Perhaps it's recoverable with that, (assuming you have the hardware).
