Best coal for stove?

Logs are grand, as long as you can get a regular consistent supply, of the right timber, at the right moisture content, at the right price. That's easier said than done in some areas.

I burn just standard coal from the local coal man. An established local coal man is usually very careful to supply the best compromise between heat / price / ash / soot. And you can't beat the convenience of him loading the bunker for you.

I've tried all sorts of other brands from other sources, and although they are a bit cheaper, they either leave a pile of ashes behind and / or the flue needs sweeping far more frequently, and I have to go to the bother of organising transportation / loading the bunker myself, and it always involves a bit of convoluted wheeling and dealing. In the end I went back to getting mine from the local coal man. When you take everything into account, hard to beat in my opinion, and it supports local jobs / small businesses.

For some time I have noticed that: coal in bags (40 kg.of Colombian) is mixed with carbon briquettes. It is no longer the coal, which purchased two months ago. There is a lot of ash and now I'm asking: does anyone in this country check the quality of sold coal?
