    Hi there,

    Just a quick question...

My husband was made redundant in Jan 2012 and hasn't worked since.
Just wondering if can I claim the Home Carer Tax Credit if he is studying?

He went back to university in Sep 2013, on a full-time course but has been at home minding our son for a lot of that time. Would be great to claim any little bit I can, as finances are dire at the minute!

    Thanks guys

Yes, as long as your husband has no taxable income (i.e. jobseekers/illness benefit).

Benefit is the keyword there, if he's on an allowance it's not taxable so you can still claim home carer's.

    Hi
Just wondering were you successfull in your claim for this tax credit. We are in a similar situation in our house and wondering if it's worth a visit to revenue ?

You don't need to visit anyone, register for the PAYE online service at revenue.ie. If only one of you has income and the other is a stay at home parent you are entitled to the credit.

    Hi Mrsrobby,

Yes, we claimed it without any problems. I downloaded the application form from the revenue website and sent it into my local tax office. It was great to get it, as every little bit helps!
