I am looking for a bottom bracket, the old one is marked SHIMANO BB-UN52 68 BC1.37 x 24 and it's 114mm, problem is, I cannot find a replacement, I have been told the UN55 has replaced the UN52, the nearest size is either 113mm or 115mm, there is no 114mm

which one should I get the shorter or the longer one?

If it was me, I'd go for the 115mm although I doubt there'd be any problem with the 113mm. The measurement is the length of the BB spindle and nothing to do with it's size for fitting to your frame. The 115mm will mean that (at worst) your pedals will be an additional 1mm apart (0.5mm each side) - no biggie. Once the new one is a BC1.37x24 it will fit your frame.
