How does that work with those gauges then? Will it not just show that they're under inflated?

Jaysis colm your closing in fast on 10 years and 40k posts. Thanks for all the good work.

Start a new job in the morning. Might be a few pound this christmas for a change :). Close enough that a diesel wont even have warmed too so all good.

    Good luck with that.

Cars and Coffee yesterday was well worth going. Bring on teh next moth.

Just finished mixing up a batch of final solution to clear the mice out of the shed.

I'm actually hoping to get an old motorcycle that's been sitting down there for over a decade running again. No license and it's probably for the other forum, but at the same time it's an old BMW so it's basically just a car cut in half anyway.

Definitely it's easy to get caught up and eventually get to the stage where you won't want to change at all which is fine if you love the job but otherwise no harm to change it up a bit keep things interesting.

I saw this on done deal earlier. The mud flaps look absolutely cat I mean who put them on. You can't get away with generic mudflaps on newer cars anymore well maybe very very rarely. I have fitted ones and they are a great fit on the back almost seem apart of the bumper. I mean who spends 25k on a car and decides that it's the extra 50 quid for fitted mudflaps is going to be the straw that broke the camels back.

Haha no it will be a while before I change my one.

I think they are terrible looking just two slabs of rubber screwed to each side of the car. I'd rather have no mudflaps than them.

You're right the mudflaps look awful. I think its the corners of the mudflaps don't work with the sleek curves of the car. Not a bad looking car overall.

Will they be left on the car long enough to see if they work... they wouldn't around here anyway!

Who the hell would steal something like that?

I suppose you look at how far the green thing has risen when the pressure is correct and remember where it's supposed to be, and if it goes below that, it's time to put some air in. :P

The new civics are really nice. Had a fair nose and spin in a 151 today. Centre console layout is very nice, big screen. Fair nippy with the 120hp. 1.6 engine.

Who spends €25k on a car to only pay €180 a year on motor tax is another bizarre question.....

    Oh wait.

Each to their own man, no need to be bringing up topics needlessly :)

There was no malice intended, I was exploring CIP's comment of who spends that kind of money and puts pretty awful mudflaps on it. :pac:

They'd break into your car for the craic around here. Toll change and a torch from lidl went the last time.

Jealous of 166man in his charger. Heading shtateside myself soon, won't even have time to drive/park a car though. Will be there for the EPA deadline for VWs, working with at least one californian teediddlyeye owner. How will I ever resist winding him up???

Would I be mad to buy a 540i msport in the uk ?

Talking 5k+ for a good one after 800 odd vrt and conversion rates.

Tis a fair whack of money on a 14 year old car thats gonna be a pig on petrol/tax and have a nice leaky bmw 4.4 V8.

Brain says E60 525i msport for a grand or so more.

    Heart wants an E39 with a demufflered V8 :p

Will probably be my last non grown up car as im going bald and grey lol.

Forget about it and cop yourself on and don't be going on with talking the bloody nonsense at this hour of your life in a married man wit' four childer.

Hold tough and get a 760i V12 a year or two newer, for even less. :D

7 series doesn't really appeal though and id prefer a V8 rumble over a V12 hum.

I probly wouldn't owe anything on said car but grown up pants are itching :p

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 11,222 ✭✭✭✭Marty McFly

Fcuk the grown up pants while you can and go for the v8.

You'll regret it if you don't in years to come :).

Well as far as I'm concerned it doesn't get much more "grown-up" than having something like the correct number of cylinders.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 7,677 ✭✭✭frozenfrozen

just get the V8 for the laugh in a few years they'll all be gone

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 7,295 ✭✭✭Supergurrier

Well between the octavia 520i and ST I have 6.1 litres and 11 cylinders so I guess id just be gaining a cylinder and freeing up some money lol.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 5,871 ✭✭✭Foxhole Norman

Getting an E39 540i would be a good call, there'll always be a market for it here so would be problem in shifting it on either.

Personally I don't see the point.

At the end of the day €6k for an E39 that the only difference will be an 8 cylinder engine seems mad to me.

If you're insistent on a BMW then I'd go for an 840i instead. A better and rarer option all round.

    Go American for V8's!

If I was spending 8k+ on a bmw V8 id have a 645ci or 545i msport over an 840ci as both are more practical and modern.

    Daily driver.

The E39 was launched in 1996, not the most modern daily driver either to be fair.

A later 840 circa 1999 would be as reliable as a 2002 540i albeit not as practical!

They are so petty to look at too

Ya may as well go down the route. My e39 was a v8 (what am I sh*tting about I still have the damned thing). They have a steering box instead of a rack and brakes are vented all round. Jekyl and Hyde, they rumble along at low rpms but can really bark when opened up. They will try to kill you when the traction is off in the wet :)

Beware of charging issues (alternators are f*ckin pricey) and electric issues (the French really need to learn from the Germans about bad Electrics). Door handles may break (outside loons okay but inside won't catch the latch) but these are easy changed when the door is opened.

Now, something with a slightly smaller engine and 2 snails would tickle my fancy much more!

    Oh wait...... ;)

Is it really only 800 vrt?

I know of a 1.6 Lancia that was 720, and don't they up it depending on spec too?
