The Indo finally realising that the whole thing might never have happened.

    Lol. Stay classy Indo.

The Indo are idiots for printing that story. But I suppose what else would you expect.

Maybe the journalist him/herself made the whole story up or even set up a fake email address to forward the bs story to themselves.

Despite the offer of a 'gourmet meal with all the trimmings'. The Indo - home of great writing.

So sick and tired of everyone getting offended by the smallest thing. Sure, if the story is true its bad form but the LGBTWEAXCSDD community are just annoying at this stage, Guess what ? I and most others don't care where you stick your dick and if you were born with tits or not. Get over yerself.

I don't really think your copy and paste rant works in this context given that 95% of the posts here from straight and gay people were basically suggesting that the article was bollocks.

Ah now, don't go letting facts get in the way of a good "I'm not homophobic but..." rant!

As I said on the trivial annoyances thread, misuse of "everyone" really annoys me.

It's a figure of speech. I would try not to get annoyed by it.

Fair enough re the context. Hardly a rant though and my own beliefs. The copy and paste argument is passive aggression ****.

And here we are. Can't air a view without being called a homophobe. As predictable as sunrise Kev. Go away and post your offended sensibilities on facebook.

When your view doesn't really make any sense in context (which it didn't) bar to have a go at a certain group in society purely because they're gay - well, if the cap fits...

I'm not sure where you're getting "offended" from. Did I claim offence?

Of course you're not a homophobe, you're just sick of gay people. Totally different.

I'm not sick of gay people Kev. Just people who, these days with any sort of cause, agenda, belief, take to social media usually to get likes and anyone who hints at some sort of negativity towards that particular cause gets villified.

I know what you mean, a likely made up story and we have people bringing out the gaystapo and adding details to the story to make it sound like it was their own fault.

A lot of people do claim they dont care what gay people get up to and yet get very annoyed when they do something or try to prevent them from doing something.

then it won't kill anyone to avoid being touchy feely or hand holding or generally making other patrons uncomfortable. They've paid for an enjoyable meal just as much as the PDA patrons.

You think hand holding in a restaurant is inappropriate?

That is insane. Am I allowed touch my wife in public or must I keep my hands in my pockets at all times?

    This is typical.
To be treated equal is to expect this, yet they complain as if they are being treat different.
If a straight couple were doing that while others were eating they too would be told too that there is a time and place.
I think gay people wanted to be treated extra special, rather than equal.

''gay couple asked to leave restaurant'' 1000's of search results
'' straight couple asked to leave restaurant'' 0 search results

That tells me that gay people want to be treat different, not equal, as I don't see straight couples complaining about being thrown out of any where, and it happens far more to straight couples/.

Wouldn't stop the journal from publishing it. Their left wing so-called journalists seem to be more interested in continually becoming enraged over whatever the inequality du jour is. I suspect their sexuality wasn't the issue here, their behaviour was.

Had their app, the ****ty spelling and the comments made me depressed.

Maybe straight couples arent discriminated against for being straight that often?

The search results show that gay people are discriminated a lot more. I suppose being against this is wanting to be treated differently?

    That is some funny stuff.

A career awaits in interpretation of statistics for a company like Marlboro.

there are 0 search results because a straight couple has never been thrown out of a restaurant solly because of their sexuality

That's it let's find out where this Restaurant is burn it to the ground, find out who the waiter is and stone him to death, while we are at it we can stone his family too.......

I sometimes wonder do people try being this contrived or do they actually believe they are being genuine?
Given no one on the thread is demanding the things you describe - one wonders if YOU are being contrived in your hyperbole or actually believe you are being genuine?

I'm sorry, I see sarcasm is lost on you, but let me explain.
I was being somewhat facetious with my comment due to the idiotic nature of other people's comments and attitudes.
The idea that some half baked story from an unknown source describing some event that may or may not of happened thus inciting hatred, ill will as well as trying to brand some establishment as homophobic a tad premature.
The vast majority of people who want to know the name of the establishment likely want to do so they can either 1) Not go there themselves ever or 2) Do what the breast feeders there and go there en-masse - behave perfectly well - pay well - tip well - but hold each others hands a lot.

Yeah I get it... The mob are fickle and are as sharp as a spoon....
I think you will find the numbers wishing to perform attacks on property or person are very small indeed.

Again apologies I did not factor in people's inability to distinguish a facetious comment designed to highlight mob type thinking and those that would take what I said literally, though I would of thought the "stoning part" would have given it away... maybe not!

An allegation was made, let's name and shame a restaurant without any real facts
So just like ANY bad review of ANY restaurant then?

Yeah cause that's what happens in a review....
The steak was dry, the wine list deplorable, lacked atmosphere... Oh and that staff where all homophobic...

    Are you insane?
The reason the Restaurant has not been named is simple... Liable

You called someone a homophob or a racist and you write about it you had better have proof that it is true and factual.

Hardly a fair comparison is it?

That coming from someone who thinks blankly making an accusation that an establishment is homophobic is the same as receiving a bad review????
Your compass on fairness is clearly askew!
In your anecdote they genuinely were causing a disturbance AND were not appearing to be using the establishment for the purpose it was therefore AT ALL. They then brought their sexuality into it as a defence when confronted. And they caused a greater disturbance when asked to leave.

In the OPs anecdote they are causing no disturbance at all AND were using the establishment for its correct purpose. And it was not them that brought sexuality into it at all. And they left peacefully when asked.

So I am unclear where you feel the points of comparison lie here? They seem to be entirely different in EVERY way except the people involved happen to be gay. Is there another point of comparison I am missing here?

Again let me explain as I do not know if you are being deliberately obtuse or you really don't get when I am trying to convey.

I was a third party observer watching something unfold....
Had I not of been there the night it happened I may not of questioned the story that "Joe" got arrest from the local spar because the security guard is a homophob and told him to get out and when he refused he got arrested.

You think it's fair that this guy on minimum wage standing at a door is made out to be homophobic? You think it is fair that people should walk around and perhaps harbor perhaps some ill will because they think they know something about him??

Point I am making is that people are already deciding this story in their mind is legitimate, you yourself think this information is enough to impact on the restaurants trade the restaurant should be named so as people can make a decision on whether they should go there.

That's all very well, but as a neutral observer yis might have noticed that the majority aren't deciding anything of the sort. The vast majority of responses (barring the odd few that were wildly on one side or another, and a long back and forth about what constitutes a display of inappropriate affection) was that if it's true, it's bad form, but it all seems rather unlikely and there's not enough detail to make an informed opinion.

    Which is, y'know, fairly reasonable.

    Great story from the independent.

It's as good as those fake stories that circulate on Facebook.
