I was walking home earlier. Saw this couple across the road obviously coming from a halloween party the worse for wear. He was hilariously dressed as a nun, she looked like some kind of zombie. This guy was carrying a packet of eggs. They crossed the road and came in behind me.

They started shouting some rubbish and running and he smacked an egg into the back of my head. I knew something was coming so I was quick enough to grab him and I punched the clown right in the nose. He went down with blood pissing out of his nose while the zombie started screaming and roaring at me and fretting over the nun like I'd shot him.

I carried on my way. Don't think I broke his nose unfortunately. This was around UCC in Cork.

Question is am I justified in clocking the dick or could we be equally culpable of assault ? Theres probably CCTV around the college. Should I have just let him get away with it or was it reasonable to hit him ?

I would not worry about it. He will wake up with a hell of a hangover and know that he was behaving like a drunken knob and that he deserved the smack in the sniffer.

Haha, fair play to you, well done.

you're allergic to eggs so you were defending your life

    Give this man a drink!

Justified imo. Hopefully he learnt a lesson.

He struck you, you punched back, he could hardly have expected a different reaction. He got what was coming.

Edit - to answer your question, yes ye could be both done for assault, but he won't be going to the Gardai as he would probably be in more trouble than you.

An egg a day is OK, OP!

If an adult is running around with eggs at halloween then they deserve every smack in the puss they get

You had an egg on your head, thats evidence of assault. He threw the first punch so to speak, and you defended yourself. Don't worry. And young morons like that would never go to the police about something like that because they know they did wrong and will probably end up in bigger **** themselves.

Odds are you'll never hear about this again..so sleep easy

He might not wake up after that blow to the head, pack your bags and head to the airport while there is still time

Seriously though I'd say your safe enough OP....only defending yourself

Thanks. Obviously I didn't want major harm to come to the lad but its not the first time I've been egged, just the first time I've been able to strike back !

I think there should be an exception in law to allow giving a good clip round the ear to anyone over the age of ten that dresses up for Halloween, including the traditional teenage fancy dress costume of a hoodie and tracksuit bottoms.

OP , if you get a call from the guards , dont make a statement , if it goes to court , say you thought you had been hit with a rock and that the impact put the fear of god in you

I got an egg in the back of the head before from a passing car and it ain't no joke. Did feel like a rock. I ran after the car but no joy. If I'd have caught that one at some lights....wouldn't bother with the jokers in it, I'd kick the car to **** cos it was probably Daddys car.

eggs are ****ing sore and when they break it feels like your brains are falling out of your head

A woman sitting in a car is convinced she's been shot when a loud bang is immediately followed by an impact to her head, producing a sticky mass on her cranium. The 'brains' she tries to hold in turn out to be biscuit dough from an exploded can.

You overreacted. You push them away, run and then hurl abuse.

A gentleman should take these things on the chin / face. The Clarkson way.

It's fine to punch someone if they don't have your steak ready though :p

I don't think you used egg-cessive force. A whack in the head from any object can be egg-cruciating. He hit you so you hit back, what else did he egg-pect to happen.

    °°°°°

You hit him once after he assaulted you with an egg. You used reasonable force to defend yourself from further attack.

Also, fair play to you for standing up for yourself.

Some might say your reaction was eggstreme

But I think I would have responded in eggsactly the same way....

    I'll get me coat.

Turned a lame nun costume into a blood-covered zombie nun costume to match his lady, I fail to see the problem.

Just as well the op was most likely sober, and had the good sense to defend themselves in the right manor. Call me a "keyboard warrior" if you like, but if that stupid c#nt smacked me with an egg the consequences for Sister sh1tebag would be slightly more severe.Especially if I was having if I was an off day,and /or had a few ales on board.I'd have kicked the little guttersnipe within an inch of his poxy little life.

OP, hopefully your actions will persuade this lad to dispense with his bad habit :pac:

Fair play but you never finished the issue correctly. You should have stood over him by his head, and crossed both your hands left to right and right to left very fast twice, this is important or it will not work ! Then proceed to drop an elbow right into his chest area. .. Followed by a pin and you screening as loud as you can 1-2...3 ding ding.

That my friend is bronze statue stuff...

I don't believe a bloody word of it!

Can't see this being a priority case for the Gardai but if somehow, you are questioned, don't say you knew it was an egg.
Tell them you say the guy; heard someone approaching behind you at speed, felt something hit the back of your head and reacted.

Self-defense can get you away with murder.
