I switched to energia for this offer took them 5 weeks to process application and only after I contacted customer service. I've had 3 duplicates of letters the place seems to be super disorganised.

The extra Bonkers step probably throws up problems in their systems, it shouldn't but thats always the way.

Best just go direct, slightly worse rate but saves headaches.

They confirmed the application within in a couple of days then requested photos! of the meter readings which I immediately supplied still took another 4 weeks and emails to customer service to get to the end.

(great fun trying to photograph the bord gais lcd during the daytime its only visible from a very narrow angle and the screen cover is both distorting and reflective I had to cover myself and the box with a blanket and illuminate from an angle to get the all the digits in the photo.)

Bonkers also suggests anther electricity BA - Bord Gais Back To School Bundle Bonus 10% Discount (Paperless, Direct Debit & Level Pay) + €100 cashback. It's not showing up as the best value for money due to the CER regulations that cashbacks can't be included in price comparisons.

That's the one I took with Flogas.

Energia offered me a new deal but it wasn't as good

Something to be aware of with Energia's rates:
Rates advertised for Energia NightSaver customers apply to the first 950 day units and 633 night units per bi-monthly billing cycle. Units used above these thresholds will be charged at the rates of 20.24 cent (ex. VAT) / 22.97 cent (inc. VAT) per day unit and 9.85 cent (ex. VAT) / 11.18 cent (inc. VAT) per night unit.

If you go over that usage the rates are terrible!

That is crazy, a photo could be taken anytime, all they should need is the reading you give them and the networks just need to match this up with the last reading you gave to whoever you were leaving.

I am out of contract with Energia, looks like they don't have much for 2nd year customers. Does any one know the best Electricity and Gas provider if I want to move from Energia?
    Thank you.

I recently moved electricity to bord gais. Good rate and €100 credit to your account.

Same here Energia contract up 2nd years rates not good. Went with Bord Gais for both, you can adjust your discount to whichever utility is higher & 100 cash back sealed the deal for me.

Surely if you ring Energia and say that you're off they'll put you on a competitive plan?

Nope. Tried it, even offered to move to another provider for 30 days then back. Operator told me you have to be gone for 12 months to qualify as a new customer....

    Hi All,

Just rang energia their, got through to a lovely girl. Straight away she offered me 16% and 13% off which i signed up to straight away (second year deal).

She then finally said to me as an extra i am going to send you out 2 free cinema tickets.

Delighted with the deal and i have to say always found energia really easy to deal with. Personally would recommend them.

    regards
    Fergal.

I wouldn't recommend them. my 12 month discount was up, i rang them offering them to see what they could offer.
The sales rep illegally quoted me Ex VAt prices.

anyway i then went to bonkers and Saw that I could get a better deal from Board Gas and FloGas, so moved my business to them.

Energia are trying to charge me 45 euro for moving my gas and €45 for moving my elec.

my contract was up, they say I entered a new one when i got the new prices.
even though I specifically only asked what they could offer, and I moved that day. which even if i did agree to anew contract is within the cooling off period.

Thanks, moved to Bordgais for both electricity and gas. Got 12% and 10% discount + 100 euro + one free Boiler service + 1000 Tesco clubcard points.
I have received the last Tesco clubcard points in the email after signing up, hopefully I will get them.

Thanks I've just switched from Energia to Bord Gais for both as my discounted rate finished in May, said I better do it before the winter takes hold. No issue with Energia, it's just a pity they won't allow existing customers avail of the special discounted rates new users have.

My contract with Energia is up tomorrow - i rang them last mth & they told me I wud get a 2nd yr duscount on both G&E - prob lower than a new customer.

ALWAYS check NET Unit Rate INC VAT & STANDING CHARGE AMT. when comparing prices.

I c posts stating they find Energua good - so what ?
All of them are good - Its down to PRICE.

Wud ave no bother switching - Keeps these firms competitive.

Did Energia not allow u a discount as a 2nd yr custoner ?
Also how did the companies compare on their Standing Charges.

I had an electric Ireland sales rep at the door offering a 15% discount to sign up. He was showing me how the standing charge was much less than energia/airtricity etc and he was also saying about a 2.5% discount they will be introducing from 16 November.

I just checked bonkers and based on my usage, it's suggesting board gais with an 18% discount. Does this include the €100 cash back too I wonder? It doesn't mention it anywhere and if I sign up to this, would the 2.5% apply in 2 weeks too, or is that ONLY for electric ireland customers?

Would I be better off checking back in 2-3 weeks when other companies may have introduced better offers with this in mind?

    Any help appreciated!

Go straight to Bord Gais site and 10% + €100 cash back is there and its variable rate so it can (it don't mean it will) go down in few weeks.

The offer is on on Bonkers page if you scroll down.

Those sales reps are a pack of fecking liars, don't entertain them at all.

Thanks for that. So €100 works out at €8.33 saving a month over a 12 month contract. My current airtricity plan just so happens to be €83 a month so if my maths are right (which I'm not sure :P) the €100 cashback is basically a 20% discount for the year (the 10% and then the 8.33/10%).

    Is that right?

Energia are offering a "22% discount" (discount off their own standard rate) on electricity via Bonkers.ie.

Depending on your usage, for many people, it is the best deal out there for electricity.

Maybe wait the 2wks - also there cud b a 14day cooling off period on ur new contract. Alternatively switch subject to you being granted any further duscounts during tge yr.

So it doesn't look like the prices have really dropped since the nov 16th when the reduced rate on electricity was to come in? Or have I missed something?
