Army Ranger Wing Snipers won both the international and overall categories in the United States Sniper Competition in Fort Benning, Georgia.

They beat the likes of the U.S Army Rangers, Airborne, Marines, Swat teams including the FBI, the Brits - just about anyone who thought they were good enough.

In previous years Irish entrants in this competition have achieved 2nd place but this year is just fantastic. Incidentally, an American Army duo who won a couple of years ago included an Ex Irish Ranger.

Pretty regular occurrence for members of the ARU.
Despite the fact many posters who redicule the Defence Forces here ,
Fair play to the lads though

Seeing as we are a neutral nation how about we put their skills to good use and use the rangers to fire food into the mouths of hungry people? Maybe aim blankets and tents at the homeless?

    Just a thought......

Or maybe we get them to snipe people who bring everything around to the homeless situation in this country.

Look up what The ARW have achieved, particularly in Sierra Leone where they pulled off an amazing hostage rescue of women who were beeing repeatedly raped and men who were being tortured.

Now ask yourself, while they were doing deeds like that, what were YOU doing?

    We do.

They were used as an advanced party in East Timor, Ethopia & Eritrea, Somalia, Liberia, Chad and they evacuated Irish civilians from Libya.

And there was a Ranger killed in Liberia.

Working and paying taxes that pays for their equipment, flights and wages. Any other questions??

    Brilliant win for the lads.

No, Ireland doesn't have a quota place for the rifle events in Rio.

In the Paralympics however, we have Sean Baldwin who is qualified for Rio. As it happens, he's a member of the defence forces. He lost a leg while serving in Liberia and probably knows the lads who won the sniper competition.

Rather my taxes go towards paying for them lads than the scrotes in Dublin City spending their dole on heroin.

You are literally clueless as to the great things members of our Defence Forces have achieved.

Contrary to popular belief, it's not all standing around with Bank vans at two in the afternoon.

Many of our lads are actually fantastic soldiers, who unlike the US, go out across the world, save some people and don't kick up a huge fuss about it.

Maybe if the Majority of homeless people weren't taking drugs or alcohol they might not be homeless. Or those who decide to have 3 or 4 kids in there early twenties while unemployed, then complain to joe duffy they cant get a free house.

There are genuine cases of homelessness in Ireland but for the majority it's a choice.

Ah lads, can we take this for what it is and not descend into madness.

    Just acknowledge these 3 points.

    1. Sniping is not easy.
    2. They are the first non American Unit to ever win both categories.
    3. The difference of training in an environment such as our own and competing to win in an unfamiliar one is huge.

    Great result.

This is the first time an international team has won both the overall and international competition categories.

    An outstanding achievement.

From what I've been told the ARW are very well respected internationally, so maybe it isn't that much of a surprise.

Cake, and grief counseling, will be available at the conclusion of the test
