Darren Fletcher, full of praise for Keane and Scholes:
"Roy Keane was one of the best passers of the ball I've ever seen, in terms of his touch and the pace in which he'd pass the ball forward and always pass it forward and broke the lines of the opposition quickly. He was the best at that. At breaking the opposition’s line and getting attacking players on to a transition."
"His touch was immaculate, he had the best first touch. All these things were so underrated in his game."
"Everyone looked at him as this ferocious competitor and box-to-box runner and tackler. That wasn't false, but, with the ball, he had one of the best first touches and the best pass forward into the attacking half to break the lines of the opposition that I've ever seen."

"Then you've got Paul Scholes who maybe got recognised even more for his controlling the game abilities when Roy moved on. Because Roy controlled the midfield, Scholesy was then the one who got forward and got goals and used his technique higher up the pitch."

Xi Jinping, the President of China is a Manchester United fan and is on a state visit to the UK, today he is in Manchester, so they take him to see Man City's stadium...

It seems the Chinese President wanted to visit Old Trafford as he is a lifelong fan of the club, but a City fan Sir Richard Leese on the local council lobbied for the Etihad stadium, he was backed by the council chief executive, Howard Bernstein, who is a honourary president of Man City.

They are putting on a match of the City's women team versus a Chinese team, so he gets to support a team in red.

Who was labelling Hazard as up there with Messi and Ronaldo? I'm pretty sure the almost universally accepted state of affairs is that there's Messi and Ronaldo and then there is everybody else.

Nobody was getting too carried away about Memphis because the defending in the Eridivisie is an absolute joke.

Sanchez was pretty phenomenal himself, he would have been a worthy winner of the POTY, but I don't get how Hazard winning it is supposed to be remarkable in a negative way. Who in the world of football, other than Messi and Ronaldo, do you think was so far ahead of Hazard?

I think when thinking about, I am thinking of mainstream UK media, pundits etc. And whether we like it or not, it shapes a lot of the public interpretations and opinions.

The same argument could be made for EPL defenses being pretty muck last year along with the general quality of the league and competition being somewhat weaker. But either or.

Watching PSV last season(as I kinda got into them from watching Strootman two year ago) Memphis definitely got my spine tingling most of the time. Not his fault quality might have been lower, he is still a 21 year old winger who clocked up a rake of goals and assists and fired PSV to a title.

I don't think Hazard winning was negative in anyway shape or form. Maybe that was Beno's point, but it's not mine. Mine was taking issue with the superlatives he received last season from large sections of the media, and fanbases to be fair, as how that season put him just below Messi and Ronaldo, to which I do not agree.

In terms of last season, and if I was putting Hazard into a pot of players that I think performed as well as (and obviously taking into consideration there is clearly players and leagues I won't know a lot about) Pogba, Kroos, Neymar, Suarez ,Tevez and Ibrahimovic would probably be higher if I put a rank on them, and that's not including Bundesliga based players like De Bruyne and a few others.

I guess my main gripe was against the mainstream narrative and media of Hazard last season, where in other quarters it was a bit more tempered. But it was banded around numerous times about how Hazard was right behind Messi and Ronaldo, and to me it's the typical English tunnel vision on the EPL, not appreciating there are better players doing bigger things elsewhere.

The Gaurdian has a rose tinted article about Rooney.
Didn't know Rooney has 11 more goals than shearer before 30 and twice as many assists. Both players have had cracking careers.
Shearer scored 84 goals after 30.

When all is said and done, Rooney has been a great player for the past 10 years. A great team player as well.

Had to laugh, Sunday Supp last weekend had a little review of Rooney where they kinda baulked at suggestions (from somewhere) Rooney's career was a failure blah blah blah and went through all his achievements and questioned how anyone could label him anything other then a massive success.

The same panel, only a few months ago, did something similar, highlighting his defencies for England and moaning about never reaching his "potential".

The UK media and fanbase link Rooney's England career to close to his club career. As an Irishman, I can separate the two entirely.

Rooney will probably finish up being one of the most succesfull English players of all time, and the best talent to emerge from that country in a decade. Of all the false dawns England have when it comes to teen prodigies, he was the one that actually achieved his potential.

The fact we sometimes lament him out of dissapointment that he never reached the heights of Ronaldo, is both testament to the unlimited potential he had for so many years, but also credited to the incredible standard he played for so long.

Like on isolation and when you think of the comment that I, and many others have, in disappointment that he maybe wasn't as good as he should be. The barometer being used against, in Ronaldo and Messi, are arguably the two greatest players to ever play the game.

Hopefully he converts to City fan..

Although I'll leave politics for another forum.

sure City is more or less an Asian club for the last 10 years, so no wonder he chose there.

    mOLEde 2 up against Celtic.

Saw someone posting a vine of Kommons reactions to being subbed. Stopped watching Scottish football many moons ago, but everytime I see the Celtic manager on SSN get the impression he is a personification or how rubbish scottish football is now.

Comes across as utterly clueless and that I could manage Celtic to a title. Is your man actually any use?

I admire City for the club they've become. This 'oil money' jibe is just jealousy.

If somebody is a United fan and they are jealous of Man city, then I would question their support. They will never ever be a club that will surpass United in any shape or form.

I'm sure the 5 fans they have on here will agree with you.

    I however do not.

    Jealousy my hoop.

You said that people/press were losing the run of themselves "labelling him up there with Messi and Ronaldo." But that didn't happen. You were exaggerating.

It's not Memphis' fault that he was playing in a weaker league, but you brought up the issue of how people weren't talking about Memphis like they were Hazard. The reason for that is obvious. The defending in the Eredivisie is a joke. And you now calling PL defences muck last year while singing the praises of Memphis and De Bruyne's seasons is ridiculous.

You said in your OP that you kind of agree with what Beno said. Beno said that Hazard was only the best of a bad bunch and was an extremely underwhelming PFA winner. Now you're saying that you were only taking issue with the superlatives that people were praising Hazard with. That's quite a change.

I'd like to know what superlatives you think were so out of place for Hazard.

"Club" is more about the starting 11 that plays every week, it includes history, fans, stadium and City will never be a match for United in that regard.

Even a lot of the hard core city fans don't like what city have become, a lot would rather not be in the champions league, would like to still be playing at Maine road and getting beat most weeks!!! make of that what you will

If we are going to continue the trend of being consistently inconsistent we will beat City Sunday and go top of the league :pac:

City will expose United's weaknesses and win without ever really looking threatened.

De Bruyne is on fire and Sterling and Navas will be handfuls, Bony knows how to score against us too. Testament to City's squad depth that their two best players are injured and they still have a very good forward line

I just hope we are tighter than we were against Arsenal and Van Gaal doesn't do anything stupid with the team selection/tactics.
