    This is what I see on beta. Nice utilization of space... BETA

    It's like what I would've imagined Boards to look like in 2005.

    Imagine all that sweet sweet potential for obtrusive ads though

    That white space should only be temporary though, as at the moment the alithogram code response is set on 'tablet' feedback switch through. Android also cross checks at the same code. As soon as it includes the screen width for monitors, widescreens etc, then the section final status will just redirect at a parallel syntax. Basically it's now using command substitution, hence the white space, but soon it will load using a value parameterized pretest.

    Bad things;
    It's all white.
    No Control Panel, and thus;
    • no access to switch skin to "Dark"
    • no option to set the "default homepage tab"
    • no "Sticky header" option
    total post of thread all over the place
    No "goto last post option"

    Good things;
    The menu drop down system works a bit better

    Someone's been studying the marketing bullshit phrase book...

    There's a thing called responsive design and very simple media queries handle this sort of thing. I think the white space is an intentional 'feature'.

    I think, ultimately, it doesn't look or feel like a forum, and most people are here because they want to be on a forum.

    I can't believe that anyone sees this as an improvement

    Absolutely ridiculous looking

    MY EYES!

    (It's ****)

    Designers are always harping on about space. This takes it to the extreme.

    I love it :ermm: I think it's really nice!! I'm clearly on my own..

    I normally hate change!

    But Boards in its original style was too hard for new people who are used to Facebook and the like to use. That's why the redesign was done a few years ago and this new beta will be even easier for them to navigate.

    Boards condescending attitude to new users - they're too dumb so we'll turn the site into Lego Duplo, a "coincidental" side effect of which is more space for ads.

    I hate it.

    It reminds me of a workbook for 6 year olds, or one of those puzzle books where you have to find hidden words, but the most difficult word is 'dog'.

    The missing 'go to last post' thingy was my main reason for returning to the blueness.

    Trying to be more like Facebook is exactly what Boards shouldn't be doing, imo.

    Diluting that forum feel won't help draw more users, I can't help but feel. Rather, it'll lose the ones they have.

    Time will tell, however.

    That's exactly what I said at the time of the redesign. Any feedback that wasn't positive was pretty much ignored however.

    Boards is trying too hard to be something it's not and is losing its focus as a result.

    I'm still using the original Beta. It's aesthetically far superior to the current design with almost as much functionality although some links don't work properly any more. Nothing I can't work around though. I can't ever see myself switching to the current design or this new Beta.

    Sure after a load of issues regarding the touch site on iOS it was finally stated that they don't have any iOS devices to test on. :D

    A lot of sites seem to going down the path of prioritising layouts for mobile devises over computers, the new layout looks that way. Hopefully nowhere near the final product.

    Cake, and grief counseling, will be available at the conclusion of the test

    And so they should. Mobile usage has surpassed desktop for a lot of companies. These days google even rates responsive sites above unresponsive sites.

    In saying all that, the site has to be designed well and this beta boards is anything but designed well.

    Yeah that's understandable, find it a bit shít as someone who does the majority of my browsing on a laptop though. Usually ends up with features going missing.

    That should never be the case though. The designer should use the real estate.
