Christmastime finishes so much earlier

I love Christmas, I really do, and it used to be that Christmas time lasted from the 25th right through to Jan 1st. But the last few years, it's like the minute the 25th comes and goes, that's it, take down the Christmas tree, stop playing the songs, it's all done and dusted. I think it's sad that Christmas is so commercialised by shops that by the 25th, as no more money can be made from it, shut it all down, and everyone is sick of it at that stage due to the non-stop barrage of Christmas advertising and merchandising from October. I also think that when decorations are up way too early, it really takes the magic out of Christmas.

For me Christmastime is very special, and most of my family only finish up work on Dec 23rd or 24th, and it feels like such an anti-climax when it's over by the night of Dec 25th, and I'm starting to feel like it's not worth the effort anymore,

I have to say, I've never experienced that. The decorations and songs and fun all last until at least the new year, and beyond.

Forget about what other people are doing, forget about what the shops are doing, and make your own Christmas magic! Organise a Christmas get together for after Christmas, or have a pile of Christmas CDs and DVDs to watch. Christmas is what you make of it.

And if all else fails, we'll still be in Christmas mode in this forum long after it has ended!

I have to say I have noticed this the last few years. Growing up Christmas always went on until 6th Jan for "Women's Christmas" and the end of the school holidays. But I am finding now that a few days after Christmas and the decorations are being taken down and the tv channels have stopped showing Christmas movies.

I think what annoys me is that Christmas is starting earlier and finishing earlier.
My point above about the tv movies - the channels start showing Christmas movies in November but stop a few days after Christmas.
A few years ago, a neighbour of ours put up Christmas lights all over the house on the 3rd week in November. He went out the day after St. Stephen's day and took them all down!

I pack everything away before I go back to work on the 2nd. I can't be facing the stress of the tidy up when I come home from work the weekend after New years. Makes more sense to me to have it all tidied away before I go back to work. I used to leave it up until the 6th but once I'm back at work in my head Christmas is well over.

I have to say I agree with all posts here, Christmas these days seemed to be finished as soon as New Years Day is over.

When I was growing up it there were still signs it was Christmas right up to little Christmas.

I've been taking down the decorations the weekend before the 6th of January as I'd be too busy with work to do it in the week, and if I don't do it before the depression sets in it'd be Christmas all year round in my house haha.

I do see your point OP, but I wholeheartly agree with Toto, Christmas is what YOU make it not what the shops/neighbours do. If you want to feel festive after Christmas Day, turn on your Christmas Lights, put on a Christmas movie/music and snuggle up to the glow of the lights and then tell me it doesn't feel like Christmas.

To be honest, it's kind of a relief when all that Christmas music stops in shops, pubs, shopping centres etc. The same bloody tunes with that bloody obligatory jingly sound playing non-stop everywhere you go. Does my head in.

I'd rather Christmas started later and finished just after the 1st of January.

I love Christmas. It's a fantastic time of year for me and my family. The thing that most excites me is seeing my 4 y/o's face on Christmas morning
