I've got a 2004 micra, there's a bit of water getting into the boot when it rains. Seems to be coming in on the left side (passenger side). Could it be coming in through the rear light? Also, the plug hole on the boot floor - the PVC plug has a tear in it so that I can see the ground, should this be the case or??

Nah, it usually comes in via the hatch seals or the lights. Check the condition of seals first.

Clear all dirt from all the rubber seals around the boot and around the lights, possibly there's a blockage where water is collecting and not clearing from the car.

On my old Almera there was a weld on the boot opening frame underneath the seal that was knocked loose after a minor tip. I filled it with grease and it stopped leaking. There should also be a drain under the spare wheel if a lot of water is gathering, I used to leave that out.
