720p, projected at circa 100"? Forget about it invest your money in a 1080p, there is a big difference in the detail at those sizes.

Spend a bit more as advised and get a 1080p projector:

I ordered this 6 months ago, it's fantastic:
    http://www.amazon.it/dp/B00M2YDBXK/?tag=curiua03-21
    Around €530 delivered

That's the one I have too, I think I paid closer to €400 though on special from amazon.

Jesus that's an incredible deal, sure it wasn't £400 which was the special deal on that a while back? I didn't think a branded 1080p projector had ever been that cheap.

Bought the epson eh-tw5200 from amazon.it back in March and I would also have to recommend going for 1080p over 720p. Since buying mine I have seen a 720p projector up close and you definitely notice the lower quality. The 720p one was only projecting at 95" as well which is smaller than what mine is projecting at (around 104") yet the quality of the picture was still lower.

The projector you bought is also used, so I assume the lamp has some hours on it already. Hopefully not many because the replacement bulbs for that BenQ model cost around €140 if my quick search on google is correct.

I'm very keen on getting a projector, it would motivate me even more to ditch sky but I can't afford the outlay for one right now.

From browsing, it appears that Full HD projectors worth their salt are also 3D as standard, is that correct?
Or are there savings to be made in on equally well performing 1080p - non 3D models that I can't find.

For projector owners, I have a big empty, smooth white wall that seems perfect for a projector. If I wanted to cut corners, is a screen really that important to do the image justice? In my head my priority would be; 1) Projector 2) Audio/Soundbar 3)Screen.

    Cheers.

Not sure about the 3D question, but I can tell you that a 1080p projector and a wall that is the right colour gives a very nice picture, even if the wall is not perfect. I temporarily painted my wall grey in March until I got around to buying a screen. It's now October and I still haven't got one because I don't feel the need for it really.

I got them to mix up a tin of Dulux Trade Vinyl Matt Grey Steel 1 in the paint shop. It is part of the formula for creating 'Black Widow' projector paint, but I read on another forum that people were using Grey Steel 1 on its own and were happy enough with the image. I might buy the aluminium base from the place in the North sometime to try the full mix, but for now I am happy with the Grey Steel 1.

    Attached a crappy picture.

I'm putting a projector in my bedroom and only have about 8 and a half feet from projector to wall, will a 1080p be overkill? looking at benq w1070

Hi Lord Spence, Thought i'd give you a reply as I bought that same projector 2 weeks ago from the same crowd :)
I also have 9sih feet of space from the screen/projector.

Rigging up sound all day for it. Getting the cables behind the ceiling etc .

I can tell you I have very happy with the projector/price and the screen size.

You can easily move a dial on the projector to make it smaller or bigger within 1 foot, maybe 1.5 feet of screen size at that range.

I'm very pleased with mine. I have 115inch diagonal. Its very big. If i was a family person, I would think slightly too big and i'd be using the small lens setting on it. Since I'm a gamer, a single man, im happy to leave the screen big.

The quality is amazing on it. I got the projector from richard sounds and the screen from amazon (found the screens much better value, motorised 120" for good value).
The screen size being changeable is very accommodating. Also if you need it smaller, obviously just move the projector closer. You will definitely not be having a problem of the screen being too small.
I do think most people would feel a bit more comfortable with a slightly smaller screen. My GF is liking it on the small setting, whilst i like it on the big for gaming. Difference is about 95" v 115"

I used my projector for a week before my screen arrived. Its a cream wall. The colors were just slightly more creamy that my white screen.
If your wall is white or an appropriate color, and smooth. The projectors work quite well on the walls. I want the screen beside I have it coming down from the ceiling in front of a few ornaments on the wall i wanted to keep. However I could easily see people forgoing the screen permanently.
I do like the colors and whites more.. but as i said.. it was a cream wall! :)

Projector arrived and setup temporary. i'm very happy with image have tested with sky hd, exceptionally bright. can be watched with 10 x 5.2w led lights on in room.

as for being used, came in original box with 0 hours on timer and plastic still on cover of projector.

for €300 i'm very happy, screen and ceiling mount next,

Yep, it was £400 on Amazon and RicherSounds reduced / price matched. Can't believe it's been 10 months already - when I checked last week there were over 200 hours on the bulb. Brilliant projector.

I haven't painted the wall - still projecting to standard cream walls, getting 2.7m wide picture from approximately 4.5 meters away.

Ok so I set it up last night and was simply blown away :D
The colour and image quality is top notch. I'm viewing from a distance of about 2.5 meters but I have a nice 80-90 inch screen (I'll measure this evening).
I did notice though that I might be too close to the screen as I can make out the Pixels (if that's correct term) on the screen from this distance. Not a fatal flaw for me as I know I'll move it further away at a later date.

I'll get proper photos over the weekend and post them.
