Service done on the focus today, 153k miles. Needs rear shocks soon too though. Where my big query is, is with the clutch.
Does be a bit groggy when taking off on a slight hill, you'd find yourself needing to give it an extra boost for it to go. So I decided to mess around abit and see. Stopped half way up a hill of about 20 degrees, knocked her into first and slowly came off the clutch, but with no accelerator. Now it struggled, and I mean struggled (almost conking) to pull itself up the hill, lights dimming, and rattling. I know the clutch is knackered, but I want one of ye to confirm the results of my experiment! Assuming it wasn't done before, I take it 150k miles is a good longevity for a clutch?

The fact that it wants to conk out is a good sign. You should be worried if it doesn't conk out and continues idling :pac:

That is 100% not the way to test for a bad clutch.

Find yourself a long hill in a good road that you can drive up at about 90km/h in 4th. Foot hard down at the bottom of the hill and see if the clutch slips. You'll know the clutch is slipping because the engine speed will increase without the car going any faster.

Try cleaning the throttle body. Might sort that out.

This is exactly what I was thinking when reading the post. Or another way of doing it is on a straight road knock it into 5th and let your speed drop until revs go low maybe 1300 or even a it less and then floor it if clutch is good it should lag abit and then pull well with speed increasing relative to revs. If the clutch is slipping revs will shoot up when you accelerate but speed won't until the clutch catches again.

If it's not slipping I would say that your clutch is okay for the moment NM.

Alright, I'll keep going for the minute and see. Thanks for the input lads. Never had a clutch go on me before, hence the uncertainty!

Is it a diesel? If yes and it has a DPF you might notice knocking noises when coming off the gas, no brake, with clutch engaged. If the engine is conking it's not your clutch. Clutch would be noisy and possibly shuddery.

I had a Golf years ago that started slipping about a month after I bought it. The clutch went in the vectra about 8 years ago which nearly broke me at the time!!

Pointless. You will still need 2 people to do a proper job.

Better off getting a vacuum pump on Amazon with all the bits for brakes.

    I have this: http://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B00O9XEQU4?psc=1&redirect=true&ref_=oh_aui_detailpage_o03_s00

You won't even need to press the brake pedal. Just unscrew the nipple, press the pump until clear brake fluid comes out and tighten the nipple. Remove the hose and put the fluid back into the brake reservoir.

You can also use it for fuel systems and stuff.

I don't like Amazon. Might get it off eBay though.

Gunson eezebleed can be got from halfords. It's a one man job as it uses the air from the spare.

I've seen that before, people were saying how the Russia/USA bit will never materialise though.

First time I've seen this, an e92 M3 with an e60 M5 engine:

That would be cooler if the E92 hadn't been an m3.

Possibly has to do with the rest of the car being able to handle the power since it's an M car already and would have been cheaper than upgrading a non M car to be able to take and put down the power.

Yea I get that I'm sure it's a hell of a lot easier and cheaper to do.

Still very cool but if it had been a 320I it would have been a tiny bit cooler :)
