There was a funny moment last year when a pacer diverted in the park to take a pee and was obediently followed by dozens of the pace group :D

Kurt did that in 2012 somewhere around the zoo and the novice in me didn't know what was going on!

Tapering has made me realise what disgusting creatures us humans are.

Was at a party last night. Standing sipping on a glass of diet 7up watching people put their manky germ ridden hands all over "communal" food. Ugh. And people breathing on me. The cheek.

    :pac:

Nice little 9k run this morning to stretch the legs out and test the new garmin.
Looking forward to next Monday and more importantly a pint of Guinness.

They've had them the last 2 years at the expo. Usually pretty good deals if you buy a box.

Last 8m LSR done at 8:48 per mile.

Mrs Mc, was that you I passed twice out on Clontarf seafront, we had a quick word about having 1week to go? I thought it might be you but thought it might be a bit creepy asking a total stranger "do I know you from the Internet??" :D

Ran my last LSR today. 10 miles. Nailed it.

I took on all the advice re fueling and with my coach came up with a good compromise. Her best advice was to be flexible. I'm the one who knows my body best, so with pace, timing fuel, I can have a plan but I need to be flexible. So for today's 10 miles I thought I'd best practice the actual plan to fuel by the hour. It worked a treat!

Perfect weather for running today, overcast, a little breezy and cool but not cold.

Usual morning routine, although I got very little sleep last night. I didn't drift off until after 3am so when the alarm when off at 6am I was hoping it was a bad dream! Got up anyway, had my porridge and went back to bed. Up again at 8, out the door and running at 8.30.

Walked a good mile, jogged a second mile then hit my easy pace for the rest of the run, with a half mile cool down at the end. I felt pretty darn good throughout! Kept to the pace I wanted, didn't struggle, didn't find it too hard and I enjoyed every second of it.

I fueled every hour, which turned out to be around every 4 miles. I walked while I had half a Clif bar each time (bit too much to be honest, for the marathon I'll go with my previous sliver, about a 1/4 of a bar), sipped a gel then carried on. Took me approx 3 minutes to down both so that jives with Dubgal's advice. It's all coming together!

Since this was only a 10 miler (only 10 miles says she !) I only had two fuel stops. Both went really well and I feel this will be a good strategy for the day.

I also crammed my belt pouch with all the gels and food and stuff I will be bringing with me. That also worked out well, it's comfortable and doesn't feel like too much.

Anyway, I seem to have a habit of posting long LSR reports :o. Enough with the talk, on to the splits!

    Mile 1:15:54 (walk)
    Mile 2:15:04 (warm up)
    Mile 3: 14:30
    Mile 4: 14:39 (fuel)
    Mile 5: 14:40
    Mile 6: 14:45 (hill)
    Mile 7: 14:23
    Mile 8: 14:42 (fuel)
    Mile 9: 14:26
    Mile 10: 15:02

Was great to be spotted by HelenAnne in the Phoenix Park D Nice to meet you and put a face to the name! I'm so glad you saw me and stopped me! I carried on with a big smile on my face!

I admit, when I got home, stretched and all that, it hit me that this was my last LSR before the big day. I can't believe I got emotional over that :P My poor cat didn't know what was going on when I picked him up and cried into his fur! Well, it's been a loooong seven months of training after all! :P

Two short runs for me next week followed by four days rest before the big day.

    Roll on DCM!!

Last LSR done this morning. 15k at 5.20/km. Only intended on doing 13km but I was enjoying it so I did a little extra. Probably went a bit too quick as well as that's faster than planned PMP, hopefully it won't detract any from next Monday. Next week is all abut rest and recover, not much more we can do at this stage.

So last nights mad marathon dream....

Went out with the 4.30 pacers (a bloke and a girl) No one could keep up with us so we stopped at all the water stations for a chat about St. Annes park run while we waited for you all to catch up :)

Now why I didn't run on ahead I don't know.......

Chain reaction cycles deliver super fast but please try before the big day!! Your stomach may not like them...
I have not experienced any issues but you dont want to get it wrong at this stage. P

I'll be sacking the gels next week. I can't stomach them at all.
They will be replaced by a few small bags of jelly babies instead.

Good to meet you too. Sorry for looking like we were blocking the path and making you move onto the road - normally we'd go into single file for another runner but I was too busy staring at you and wondering if they were, indeed, striped arm warmers and could you be TFGR ... I recognised your marathon outfit description and knew you ran in the PP. we were away from our usual stomping ground, usually we do our Sunday LSR from Raheny, but all the marathoners in the club were off doing the last ten miles of the route today, so we thought we'd do something different for a change. We did War memorial gardens, Liffey, park, canal, Phibsboro, Kings Inn, Smithfield and back to the car via Heuston. It was great!
You were looking really happy and comfortable. Hope you enjoyed your last three miles.
    best of luck on Monday!

I got a box of the hi5 isogels in Run Logic Temple Bar a few months back for c. €17 & I think 20 in a box. Which isn't back considering some shops sell them for €2.50 individually. But I did buy a pair of runners on the day so I may have got a discount. I've bought them online also from wiggle.co.uk.

Any other gel carrying tips? Thought the Ronhill cargo shorts were my saving grace with their inbuilt elasticated loops but the High-5 gels I've tried just fall away straight away.

Last LSR today - feels weird even calling 10m a long run at this stage!

For my LSRs I have been able to fit my phone, 5 gels (prob room for 1 more), a 250ml bottle of water & my keys into my flipbelt. Not good for money though as I've found out the hard way!

    Flip belts are the best!

I bought a belt on eBay for carrying gels. It has three loops either side. Tried it on today and ran up and down the hall and the gels all slipped down to they'll be going in the Flipbelt on the day :)

Did my last 9M LSR today. Didn't feel it at all but the 7pints of Hydrogen last night (unplanned!!) and going out running after the devastation of the rugby match probably didn't help.

My running in the last week really hasn't been enjoyable. I don't know whether it is the culmination of all the training, the tapering or whatever, but I am starting to feel 'overtrained'

Not sure what to do this week - plan calls for 3M runs every second day. Am I better to keep to this or should I just take 3-4 days off to rest?
Sport massage tomorrow so hopefully this will help.
Not in a good place at the moment...

10 miles done today which I really enjoyed. I haven't enjoyed any of my runs since last Sunday so I'm delighted . Only 9 more miles before the big day.

I have decided on my goals for 26th
    A. 4:40
    B. 4:50
    C. Finish as well as I can.

Last LSR of the training plan can't believe it. 12 miles easy on the plan today. After the wedding celebrations decided to have a bit of a lie in this morning so instead of the 6.30 start went for an 8 am start for the usual routine (really getting sick of porridge) and out by 10 am. Lovely morning for a nice easy 12 miles. Legs were a little tired but putting that down to dancing in high heels at the wedding. (the dancing in high heels kept me away from the drink so there was method in my madness !!). Avg pace 11.04. Happy with the run, feeling good for the big day. Can't believe that my next long run report will be after DCM..... hope I am feeling as positive. Sports massage booked for tomorrow night and a nice easy week of short runs to look forward to. Have a good week everyone. :)

Yes it probably was me (in my Frank Duffy 10 Mile tshirt) was out about 10 and did a loop of Howth Road, Coast, Black Banks, Raheny and back around again. Sorry I didn't recognise you did I at lease say good morning I always make it my business to great my fellow runners just in case they are boardies !! I was greeted by two runners this morning telling me to enjoy taper and good luck next week, was delighted I must look like a marathon runner now !! Maybe the drinks belt is a give away !!
