Oh get over yourself. If I went into your thread and started talikng about Mark McGee and how his teams lie down to Celtic I would be accused of trolling

What's that got to do with the fact that the referee refereeing Rangers today used to play for Rangers?

By anyone's standards that's strange. Do you agree?

A schoolboy at Rangers. Is the same concern there when he refs Clyde or Queens Park?

Its got as much as Mark McGee being the manager of the team you beat to go top of the league and has admitted where is allegiances lie more than once. Really your persistent sad wee digs are tiresome now Bobby

Not as far fetched as you'd like to think. You do realise that today's referee, Barry Cook, used to be a goalkeeper who was on the books of Rangers?

    http://m.heraldscotland.com/sport/13046956.Keeping_the_peace__Barry_Cook_has_gone_from_goalkeeper_to_referee/

    It actually is.

You throw a dig and then whinge about digs?!

Relax petal, you've very defensive. No harm in discussing your teams match today especially as the ref was an ex-Rangers player.

I'd think it strange if an ex-Celt reffed us, not sure why you guys are taking this so personally and have such a difficulty with it.

We're just a bit annoyed that it's come out, that's all.

All that hard work, from hatching him at the lab, implanting him with a believable memory bank, ensuring those memories stay secure.....

So that's where Rangers money went to. No surprise it doesn't appear in your regular accounts then.

Forget about this being Rangers for a second but do you really not think there's a potential conflict of interest in a referee taking charge of a team* that he used to play for?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 6,704 ✭✭✭Broxi_Bear_Eire

He was 16 or so jeez and playing for us does not mean he supported us. To be honest if it's the case that if a red supported someone as a boy they shouldn't officiate at that teams games. Then there's a few who should never red yours. Scotland is a small country these things are going to happen

Few points Bobby, since the search function is broken have you been bothered when he's been a ref at a Queens Park or Clyde games or posted such?

He didn't play for Rangers, even once Bobby, he was on schoolboy forms with Rangers, he didn't even make it into their youth team if you read the article you yourself quoted. He had to go to Queens Park to play underage football, then to Clyde.

Take those three teams out of teams he can officiate for, in a league the size of Scotland how is he going to improve.

A lot of young talent will go through Celtic and Rangers hands because they are the only game in town for ambitious young Scottish footballers (well at present I'd imagine only Celtic out of those options is appealing), I'd also imagine those that fail at schoolboy level are numbering into the hundreds every year. If you want ex pros to become referees it will be an issue again, and better pros will have played at a number of teams.

So, in summary, I agree with you, I might have found it worthy of raising an eyebrow if he played professional football for a team, then gone on and refereed said team against my team, and i'd certainly scrutinise his decisions as a result. But as I've also said, it's probably something we are going to get used to if we want ex pros as refs. Thankfully none of this happened for me or you though Bobby, or had anything to do with the teams we support, so I'd say we have both said all we can on this subject.

New head of Analysis joins the club so three new starts recently not bad in the overall restructuring that is having to be done

    http://rangers.co.uk/news/headlines/new-head-of-analysis-joins/

RANGERS are pleased to announce the appointment of Neil McIlhargey as the club’s new Head of Analysis.

Neil starts his post today after previously working with Mark Warburton and David Weir in a similar role at former club, Brentford.

He ran the analysis department for several years at Griffin Park after being appointed by Warburton during his tenure as Sporting Director at the Bees.

McIlhargey’s appointment marks the latest step in the rebuilding of the club’s off field staff as he joins Craig Flannigan and Frank McParland as recent additions to Warburton’s support staff at Murray Park.

Manager Mark Warburton said: “Neil is another great addition to the support staff.

“He has outstanding quality, subject knowledge and a real drive to perform and he knows what David and I want out of a game from an analytical perspective.”

Dirty bastard, and apparently it's normal to try and prevent your opponent from playing, according to the commentator.

And another one, he should be off by now.

    Great shot.

Hope Livingston disappear in the depths of Scottish football, horrible little bunch.

And then Clark gets booked for absolutely nothing, yet a forearm smash on the neck is fine.

    This ref is at it.

    Couldn't make that up.

I was watching the Champions League, not the Petrofac Training Cup last night. I imagine I would have learned nothing new about the standard of refereeing if I watched Scottish Football matches last night
