Doom seems to be now backwards compatible for some NXOE users:

Another NXOE update, 432mb. Seems to be few minor fixes.

Full details can be found here: http://forums.xbox.com/xbox_early_access/update_preview/update_preview_forums/nxoe_1509/f/5543/t/2054849.aspx

Serious push on to get it ready for November. Seems a bit soon tbh.

I agree. Last update didn't even fix Kinect voice commands for me or my big one the controller issues with several games.

That aside , after switching regions for the 1st time in a while last night I saw what others get on the dash and we ill likely never see if set to ireland.

It is hilariously rough in places, it's nowhere near ready. They've already delayed Cortana, so they may release it with several other features with a "Beta" tag.

In other news, they're going to build in support for using microphones and headsets instead of the Kinect while using Cortana. I'd assume that means that all of the voice commands are going to be supported, not just Cortana commands.

    See Polygon here.

Nichols said that when Cortana comes to the Xbox One - the voice or text search AI is scheduled for a preview sometime this year - it will include Kinect support. You'll also be able to use it with a headset and microphone or by typing in your search, he said.

It also says they're taking out gesture support on the dashboard altogether. It's not something I could ever see anyone using, so no tears are going to be shed, but the entire article comes across as "Sorry about Kinect, please stop asking us about it."

The gestures were useless (and virtually no one knows about them anyway) from the start. The kinect itself is great though.

Is anyone else's Kinect not turning on at all since the latest update?

Mine is fine, but voice currently doesn't work when you have to select Preferred Spoken Language.

Yep. This happened to me with the last update before this one.

I battled with Microsoft to get it repaired for free and eventually got a replacement sent out last week and that worked a treat.

On the previous dashboard, I liked having my achievements snapped at the side while playing some games. Is that not possible anymore? I can't seem to find the function to do it....

Edit: I literally just found the snap option at the bottom of the sidebar. Never mind. Sorry

Have the new dash on my xbox one.

Find that the text looks really bad EG getting Odd Symbols and loads of it i cant read at all.

Keeps on telling me i have no friends online and that i have no friends on the xbox one. This is odd as all my friends show up on my 360.

Another is it removed or missing i miss been able to see how much gamer score you and your friends got over a month. Is that still there under something different ?.

The weird text is just unlocalised placeholder text. Friends not showing is a bug.

The new social bit is heavily under construction, I don't remember seeing the leaderboard but I am open to correction.

I still think the huge tile on the main dash section of the game you last/currently play is a massive waste of space make it smaller and add more useful short cuts there.

Space seems to be utilised quite poorly IMO across the entire OS. The tiles under the main dash have a ton of empty space in them and social looks quite bad.

New build is rolling out, lots of fixes.
Friends List: The friends list will now successfully update in the guide.

System Update: Users performing a system update while the console is in use, will no longer experience their screens freezing, or receive an E203 error and the update will apply correctly.

    Wireless Networking:
    • Users should no longer encounter a “wireless network hardware on this console is not working” error when connecting to Xbox Live with a wireless connection.
    • You will now be able to detect wireless networks with an external hard drive attached.

Crash on dashboard: You should no longer encounter a crash when moving from the Home tab to the Store tab on the dashboard.

TV Audio with Instant-On: When resuming from connected standby, Live TV should no longer start with no audio.

Just realised I hadn't opted in so I just did it now. Do ye think I'll get an invite soon or will I have to wait for the full rollout?

Probably the next time they rollout an update to the new dashboard, so not too long I'd say.

Be aware that it's pretty buggy right now, but it is improving slowly.

Yesterday's build was a lot more solid, functionally.

Hey folks noticed tonight that the DLC is now available to download for Mass Effect 1 on the backwards compatibility version.

Press the option button when highlighting the game in Games & Apps and click manage game and you should see Bring Down the Sky and Pinnacle Station in the ready to install section.

Providing you owned it on 360

Reading through all of your comments about the new dash and I have to admit, I am slightly worried. It sounds nowhere near ready for a launch. You would expect, this close to launch it would be working 99%.

You guys see this being delayed into the new year?

No, it'll be out in November, that's not going to change. If any parts aren't working perfectly, then they'll chuck a beta tag on that part.

As runawaybishop said, the most recent build has improved things a lot as well, so I'd imagine that it'll be pretty solid by release. Same with Windows 10, which was never really bad during the previews, but they put a lot of polish on it during the last month or so.

Got a message saying all preview console will be getting the NXOE soon and if I don't want to risk it I should opt out.

What do ye reckon? Should I just stick with it or what? Only reason I've avoided it so far is I didn't wnt to risk not being able to play games at any point.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 10,724 ✭✭✭✭MJohnston

imo the latest update version is solid enough not to worry about anything, although I haven't played games in a while.

I got that last night as well.

Is there still a list of games having problems running on the new Dash ? I remember Destiny and the Witcher were mentioned before launch.

Nah, destiny is fine. The thing releases very soon anyway. FWIW I haven't had any issues with destiny since i got the nxoe, and i have had it a while.

I think I'll opt in so.

Destiny is my biggest time sink at the minute and have the Witcher waiting in the wings to play. Also have enough Credit on my account to buy two games so trying to decide whether or not to buy Halo :) Decisions Decisions.
