Ireland call is muck. The fields gets ruined by the sf references thrown in by morons. Ole ole acceptable but jaded looking now. As for 'fk john Delaney at the fai', the tune had potential but all singers of said tune have been removed from the aviva. Gash.

Cmon ireland. We can do better than this!

That never happens at the rugby. The fields are lush and plentiful.

Ireland's call is one of the most simplistic pieces of toss I've ever heard.

Just replace all anthems with the Italian national anthem.

    You'll never beat the Irish.

However in a football match, that is a completely silly claim.

Are we talking rugby here? If so I have never heard the fields with any SF references. Leave well enough along. Why do we always criticise ourselves here?

Sing some rebel tunes. Look at the atmosphere in Celtic Park. One of the best in europe. Can't sing them at Ireland games anymore due to the "matured as a nation" brigade. They don't even need to mean anything, reality is they bring a good atmosphere and are upbeat. When your get rid of 99% of your song options, there ain't gonna be much left over except the same rubbish again and again and again

I always find it ironic how often Fields of Athenry is sung as rugby matches given the fact that it is a song about the famine, and the landed gentry one associates with rugby took the queen's soup during the famine :D

It was composed that way so it would be easy to remember and easy to sing even when totally sh*tfaced, a sport version of the Barney the Dinosaur song.

Most, if not all of the 'landed gentry' were Anglo-Irish and already Protestant for hundreds of years before.

I don't mind Fields of Athenry so long as the idiots leave the IRA out of it but I think ole ole ole should be banned outright, it should actually be a criminal offence. It's such a cringey stupid fcuking song, sang by idiot Irish people all over the world like some sort of battle chant. I'm expecting it to be sang at some stage on Strictly Cime Dancing in the coming weeks seeing as Daniel O Donnell is on it this year.

The SF and IRA chants are only usally included by idiots in night clubs, no need for it to be changed at Rugby and Soccer matches. As for Ole Ole Ole, yeah it may sound like a Battle Cry, but its our Battle Cry.

At the Euros me and a few friends came up with one to the tune of 99 luftballoons-though the song is a bit dated now with Robbie on his last legs:

Pass the ball to Robbie Keane,
We'll sing songs of Gary Breen,
Score a goal and we will scream,
Pass the ball to Robbie Keane,

la da da da da da da etc.

Sing Scottish football songs at an Irish international match?

    How odd?
