There is one thing that I find even worse than this, only started happening recently, and went combined with the "should of" thing becomes downright unholy.

I don't know if anyone else has noticed this, but for some bizzare reason, native English speakers seem to have lost ability to use the correct past tense forms, both verbally, and written. So "should have gone" becomes "should of went". WHAT THE FUCCKINNG FUCCK

It makes me want to go on a fuccking shooting spree, and the worst thing is it seems to be gaining traction! I hear it on the radio, see it in articles, etc. Any old dope can be an editor now it seems!

I posted the of/have debacle a few posts above you. I don't think it's new, I remember studying for the Leaving Cert back in 2002 and our English teacher was highlighting the incorrect use back there. Not sure if it was something he spotted from the younger classes but he seemed to indicate there was some "study" done on it, attributing it to F-R-I-E-N-D-S of all things!

Islamophobia, and other other phobia based words that have nothing to do with an irrational fear.
I'd love to hear of a case where someone was diagnosed with a phobia of Islam.

I recently read an article talking about "Womanophobia".

Phobia comes from the Greek word phobos for fear, used nowadays generally for aversion. Nothing to do wit a mental disorder as such.

    Otherwise:
Alot, I hate it a lot!

    'Trick or treating'.

What ever happened to "Penny for the pookey/pookah"?

    That ended with the famine..

"Who is the "We" you are referring to?"

Seems to be the latest craze on boards....

Use of the word porn that has nothing to do with porn, some examples:

    Food Porn
    Property Porn
Stair Porn (a friend regularly posts some excellent photos stairs but don't call it porn unless someone is fu*king on it)

That one drives me mad. A woman I know frequently posts crap like "Portugal ....let's be having ya"
    Happy out. Just fcuk off!
Vino is another one, so annoying.

Phobias main meaning was and still is an irrational, overwhelming fear or aversion to a thing or place.
It's now being used to describe people who have a rational dislike of an ideology.
It combines rational and irrational dislike in one word.
There are plenty of other words that could be used instead of Islamophobia.

    Adding .com to describe something.
    Hungover.com, wrecked.com, broke .com.

I thought that and "hashtag [whatever the f***]" died out somewhere in early 2014-ish? Please tell me I was right about this... please? :o

Banter. I die a little each time I hear the word.

I have punched someone in the face for continual use of this word.

    Also worth mentioning:

Mangling peoples names by pluralising them for no reason - it must be over 100 times during his career for example that I heard Shay Given referred to as "Shay Givens", both spoken and in writing.

Or just referring to people by a different form of their name, again for seemingly no reason. I think it was somewhere in the late 2000's that Alex Ferguson became Alec Ferguson almost overnight on nearly all the English news stations.

And an extension of sorts of "should of" - than/then. Five is greater THAN three, five is not greater THEN three. Then three what? What did three do??

    "Cheers" used as thanks.

    "Man"
It beats 'noice wan, bravah' any day, though. :p

    "Take a chill pill"
I don't know why it annoys me but it does.

I will admit to my own use of a potentially irritating phrase.
A young wan reversed in to me a while back. It was no big deal and no damage done yet she was being really over the top. My words to her were "cool your jets" :p

    - That bloody "Happy Out" phrase. Started somewhere like Wexford I think but seems to be all over the place now
    - Any social media term (selfie, gone viral etc)
    - Putting non-existent Twitter hashtags at the start of everything

Basically anything uttered by attention-seeking non-entitites whose whole feeling of self-worth comes from how many "likes" they get on Facebook

This happens all the time with the names of shops.

I've heard 'Tesco' referred to as 'Tescos' more times than I've heard it referred to correctly.

'Lidl' has been changed to 'Lidls'.

'H&M' has been changed to 'H&Ms'.

Epic, over used and lost all meaning.

There is a sub-section to that one that should be added to it "Epic Fail" or "Fail".

Fail should only be used when someone is referring to something not starting, for example an engine or life support system. Or of course when someone fails an exam. Not when someone does something wrong or falls over!

Guff about stuff, and stuff about guff.

Words that I'd like banned with immediate effect (ie. things my younger sister says):
    • On fleek
    • On point
    • Bae (it means poo, love)
    • Totes emosh
    • abbreevs
    • Squad goals
    • like, as verbal punctuation, like.
    • Fam
    • Turnt
    • Basic, as in: "Oh my GOD, I'm so BASIC"
    • Whut-whut (usually accompanied by a strange hands up, palms out shuffle dance
    • Literally can't cope

Also, if she tells me one more time that I need to learn how to 'contour' I may lose my sh*t! :D

Looks like Abe Simpson's prediction has come true. Don't understand half of it.

I like all these new words.

    Especially "thanks fam"

Selfie..so over used now. Old and middle aged people are more guilty of this ironically

    'LGBT'.

Nor am I the only one who dislikes this term.

Katie Glover, who regularly writes about transgender issues for The Independent (UK), wrote a column last month titled 'Why it's time to take the T out of LGBT'.

Seriously? Its already hard enough for trans people to get any attention or recognition of their problems, and separating themselves into a standalone community approximately 0.1% of the population will make it only harder again.

I second "Islamophobia". Online fawning over an archaic foreign religion that has no positive effect or bearing on your westernized existence. Get a life.

Keep calm and get it through your head that adding "Keep calm and..." to the start of any sentence does not magically make it hilarious.
