8 cows out of 140 not in calf and 1 heifer in 34 not in calf

The milkings have been fun since though - crap everywhere!!

    Will you sell the heifer?

Not sure what to do with them to be honest

We might fatten her - we have a speckled park heifer belonging to the nephew that we are going to fatten in the straw bed before the cows calf so we might put them together, the nephew could do well out of it!!

Not sure what to do with the cows, tight for cubicles and didn't get the shed done that we were supposed to this year, not yet anyway and its running late to be starting it

sold some cows today and i think you better warn your cows about the change in brucellosis testing,as happened this morning one poor girl went up the ramp that wasnt going yesterday.all it took was a slack looking bag last night and a second look to say "i think youre looking after yourself more than me" and 970 euros in the pocket and not lonesome for her

I tought the exact same thing this morning when one smacked me in the eye with her tail.

Maybe this is a stupid question, but i'll ask it anyway. When milk tank is getting washed do cows have to wait in pen till it's finished washing. Also is the teagasc guy called Walsh Fellow.

John Shortall, who is a Walsh Fellow, which is some sort of grant given to people each year to study a particular area abroad that may have benefits for Irelands agriculture.

In this case he studied robotic milking and what cost/benefit it may bring over conventional milking parlours. They have to present their findings to an audience and are then questioned on their findings.

Don't have it in front of me but did they mention labour as a variable cost in that?

Milkman has been coming here between 3 and 4 am for years, I think its great as theres no kids around the yard then. Also just leave yard clear in the evening time for him. Means he isnt coming in the middle of milking too

How do you find the lims? Do they have a longer gestation?

    Dry matter intakes

Remember grass is running at 11% now compared to 18 in the summer

That means a cow has to eat 145kg of fresh grass compared to 88kg in the summer to get the same stomach full

    Not gonna happen Eddie

I have one with a good few years. I find it very good for trimming tails a few times a year. It's not so good if the tails are very long or knotted with dirt though. A good drill with 2 batteries and I do 1 or 2 each round, morning and evening. No pressure or delay in milking, once you sharpen the teeth every year or so.

What did you find wrong with them? I know a few lads with them and all seem happy with them.
