Calculating pension contributions for tax return

    So,

I need to calculate the amount of PRSA contributions last year.

I contributed some from salary and employer matched mine.

I left the employer mid year last year and have a p45.

Where is the best place to see the total amount contributed? P45.

What I have currently done is look into my PRSA statement and added up all the contributions (mine + employer).

Is this ok? Is the employer contribution counted as a personal contribtution by the revenue for tax purposes.

    Thanks.

Has all of this been done through the net pay arrangement in work ( were all the combined contributions on your payslip? )

If so, there's no further tax relief due to you, as relief will have already been granted through payroll, and you should not include these amounts on your tax return

What is the net pay arrangement? What was done is, I paid x amount and my employer matched that.

I should have been more clear. I did freelance at the end of the year and have a self employed tax liability. I am wishing to max my pension contributions to reduce tax.

When I am considering the amount I have already contributed for purposes of calculating remaining amount of tax free contributions, I know my previous personal contributions are considered but is the employers contribution also?

I'm not looking for relief from already contributed amounts, in fact, what I want to do could be considered the opposite.

    Thanks.

This is a question I also want answered.

I am a company Director and get a company pension (deducted through payroll).

Am I entitled to pay to fill in the charges/deductions on the Form 11 with a separate pension payment to my pension provider ? Is my 25% age cap restricted by the employment pension ?

    Thanks,
    TK

All depends on what type of pension it is. Some pension contributions made by an employer is tax deductible, however some are not.
