Lately I've been getting pretty sick them. Between the overpriced drink, loud music and worst of all people glued to their phones on Facebook and constantly taking pics. Anyone else feel the same ?

Not a fan of clubs at all, I do like pubs though as long a the music isn't blaring. I go out to have the craic so not being able to hear anyone is a pain in the arse

You might not find it entertaining but I've lived alot of places and it's one of the best countries for a pissup anywhere.

The problem is the entertainment has been drained out by people constantly glued to their phones.

People regularly remark on how quiet my speaking voice is. So you can imagine what fun I have trying to chat somebody up in a pub or club..

If I wanted to shout to be heard over the music, I'd go to a concert / nightclub. Pubs that do this, be it a DJ or live music (usually from some mediocre-at-best band) I won't be returning too. I've left various pubs when I've seen the band coming in to set up. Just not for me.

To each their own, I suppose, given that lots of people like it.

I'm in the pub right now, watching drunk farmers playing darts, listening to Paul Young on heart tv and drinking sweet Tennent's. Where else would you rather be?

It can be a pain when you're out with mates and some are glued to FB or whatever, thankfully most of my mates don't be at it. The only time I'd be on is when I'm at the bar getting a round in

At a quiz in a pub now. Only on 2ND bottle going to have more at home. No drunk people see ND here

    Two reasons.

I'm taking advantage of the Pub Wi-Fi to download rock ballads on me phone and double in double out makes for slow darts legs.

You can't beat a good Irish pub. Unfortunately there are too many pubs/clubs that thinks leaving in too many people so you have to Q 30 mins for a drink, 15 mins for the toilet and shout to have a chat is a good night out. I've walked out of many a pub when the wait for a drink was bordering on the idiotic.

If the pub does live music, chances are it will be too loud for normal conversation. Solution: avoid.

If your friends spend their time out on their phones, you need to tell them to f*ck off home and then go find some sociable people.

Enjoying a night out is really on yourself, you pick a few good people to surround yourself with and no doubt the craic will be had!

It's really what you make of it IMO, nothing beats a few too many in a nice pub with friends before hitting a club for a different vibe!

Maybe you're just getting old OP lol :P
But yes sometimes going to the same pub as many people tend to do can be unoriginal and boring!
And the people glued to their phones again there's only a handful that are at that nonsense!

You should try using your shouting voice and see if you have better luck.

Not to keen on nightclubs the music is way to loud plus I don't like parting with 10 euro to get into the place, bloody rip off. I prefer a good pub anyday of the week

I went to a nightclub in Galway the other night and I'd say I was easily the oldest person there. I'm 22. :( Suppose it was a student night. Still though, really hate the places! Pubs on the other hand, could nearly live in one. :)

I think even if pubs and bars didn't have loud music playing it'd still be difficult to hear the people you're talking to because there'll always be that one loud group of kunts that cause it to be hard for everyone else to hear the people they're talking to so everyone ends up having to speak in a raised, loud voice anyway. Combine the alcohol and it can't be helped.

It would make more sense for pubs to limit how many people they allow in, though, because if they just allow enough in for there to be a good atmosphere but not absolutely packed then people wouldn't be put off buying multiple rounds because they wouldn't have to wait 20+ minutes every time they want to get some. Usually when I'm out drinking I don't plan on getting drunk at all, but I've noticed that in packed pubs it's far easier to stick to this plan. In less packed pubs with good atmospheres where everyone's having a laugh I more often than not have a "fuk it, I might as well stay for another one" attitude with my friends and then that basically becomes a recurring cycle every time I finish a drink.

Why bother stumping up for entry into a niteclub when a late bar is just as good, or in many cases, better?
Most so-called niteclubs are just panelled out inside in black-painted plywood (or something that looks awfully like it) with a velvet rope outside to aid herding the cattle, neon lights stuck around the place in a p*ss poor attempt at making it classy.

Sh*t music/overpriced booze/drunken idiots/bouncers, aint nobody got time fo' that.

Very true,I've renovated a few of them and some of them are complete deathtraps with the wiring behind them, there was also the nightclub who's dancefloor was built on top of an old unused swimming pool, nice claim for a few people if it ever gave way.

How long has it been since you were in a nightclub. neon lights?? black painted plywood? maybe your choice of establishment is to blame.

I like night clubs. going out having craic with my mates and randomers, maybe get lucky, general messing that probably isn't funny when sober but it's good fun at the time. None of my mates would be on Facebook on a nightout. Ever. I don't notice other people on Facebook because i'm not looking out for it. We're all in our early 30's and still enjoy clubs. Can see why some people don't but for me and the people I hang around with we enjoy them on a night out

Good for you. Used go to them every weekend before but they'd bore me to tears now, would rather go to a late bar with music I like and take things to a house party afterwards, you'll find things'll change when your 'wolf pack' start getting domesticated and that won't be too far off.

TBF the standard of clubs is pretty dire here and hardly on a par with other places around the world.

People used to go to pubs cos it was the only real social thing before the telephone, internet, cars etc.

Still pubs are nice now and again.

That's evolution I think. I mean if we all stayed in the cave it wouldn't work.
