    Hi All,

Just wondering if anyone has recommendations for broadband in Cork - specifically around the Rochestown (Mount Oval) area?

I'm a fairly light internet user and want to get a good value (€30 or less per month) broadband package with fairly decent performance.

Has anyone had any experience with mobile broadband in the area?

    Any advice welcome!

    Thanks! :)

"mobile broadband" and fairly decent performance don't belong in the same paragraph!!

"Mobile broadband" isn't real broadband, it doesn't have the performance of a real wired broadband service.

Expect to pay around €45 for either UPC/Virgin Media broadband or Vodafone Broadband.

    Thanks BK!

I had a feeling I might get that response about mobile broadband!

I've checked and UPC/Virgin Media is not available in my area, so I was just wondering about the alternatives. I've had dreadful experiences in the past with Eircom and I wanted to avoid them at all costs.

Is the feedback for Vodafone Broadband generally ok, or does it depend on the area?

Vodafone has two types of "broadband":

    - Mobile broadband which has the same problems as all mobile broadbands.

    - Wired broadband, called Vodafone Fibre, which is actually reselling Eircoms broadband service.

I was thinking of the latter as it is quiet a bit cheaper then Eircoms version of the same broadband, while being much better then "mobile broadband".

Sky Broadband might be another option, but note again, they are simply reselling Eircom Broadband for cheaper.

I hadn't realised that Sky Broadband was also a wired broadband - I assumed it was via the Sky satellite dish.

I have a few options now at least, so I will compare their offerings.

    Thanks for your help!
