Wales beat England at rugby. That was bad enough but to add insult to injury, Ireland beat us into second place in the "One Man and his Dog" competition. Where do us English go from here?

Yes, good point. Maybe we could annex Ireland and make sure it exports all its good food while the Irish starve. I get your point and I am disgusted by the way the English behaved back in those times. We English should be ashamed. Were you ever compensated?

Some of your more recent behaviour isn't anything to be proud of either.

Do you mean ME personally or the land of my birth?

I think he means that you share the white man's burden. Nothing for it but to make a contribution to the Uruguayan Rugby team's training fund!

Four warnings? Only? 4? Pah! Clearly not trying hard enough.

A poster starts a light hearted thread about sport and someone puts up a post about the famine.

That's the most unbelievably tactless thing I've ever read on Boards and that's saying something.

Hardly, what about that kerfuffle in the Food and Drink forum thread last week?

It was terrible, so it was.

I am not totally au fait with the rules of rugby. I don't understand why some penalties are given but I enjoy watching it.

I'm pretty sure that they make it up as they go along, some of the players don't know the rules.
