Steam have vouchers, doubt you can buy them with phone credit if that's what you're asking

Big release on GOG today. The original System Shock is finally available after nearly 20 years.

I played through the game a couple of years ago with a mod that added proper mouse look and let you map the keys ( the game was pre WASD so has a very confusing control scheme for people used to WASD that is not rebindable ). It seems this release includes all those features and higher resolution support.

It's still an absolute classic that holds up extremely well and well worth a play if you can get over the badly aged graphics.

The GOG release is an "enhanced edition" and it looks fantastic. It sounds like it includes whatever mod you played anyway!

Given the PES pc ports tend to be farcical I downloaded the FIFA 16 Demo. Will probably get the full game later. Need to mess with with the demo further to see if there's any potential PC related issues and see whether I prefer it to FIFA 13. Which imo is the best iteration of the series.

Blizzard dished out a massive banwave for Diablo3 this week

As a result the seasonal leaderboards are (still daunting) a little less daunting, apparently some of the top players had been usingabusing that hellfire amulet glitch which gave an extra passive ability.

Hey folks, how well do the FEAR games hold up? There's a complete collection on Bundlestars for a fiver, and its tempting.

Haven't played the first since it was released. Was a great game for its time and glad i experienced it when it was fresh. Heard the rest weren't as great after the first.

The graphics have aged horribly. I replayed it a few years ago. The AI is still pretty good and the scares and tension was still there.

I'd stop after Extraction Point. It's like The Matrix, it's sad they didn't make any sequels.

god yeah, a sequel to f.e.a.r. would have been amazing. can you imagine what they could have done with it?

the original game was absolutely fantastic, it had it all. good jump scares, excellent psychological scares, terrifying little japanese girl and damned good combat mechanics and timey wimey magic powers

it has not aged all that well though

i just noticed something weird, why did I say original game? there was only one.

F.E.A.R 1 is still an amazing horror first person shooter. The gunplay is very well done and sound effects complement how satisfying it is. Holds up today and then some. The first one is still the only real one that's a must-play, though. You can probably find a cheap enough key for gog and steam around the net.

I wish I'd gotten the DRM free version but I think there was a huge F.E.A.R sale soon after I made a steam account.

I liked both Fear and Fear Files when I played them years ago on xbox. Can't remember if I played Fear 2 or just the demo. They are worth the playthrough anyway.

Anyone get a rainbow six beta code? Are they only useful til Monday and do you get anything when game releases?

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 29,930 ✭✭✭✭TerrorFirmer

First game is easily the best but Fear 2 was pretty okay as well, I picked it up at some stage for about €20 pre-owned at the time and felt like I hadn't wasted money. I bought Fear 3 brand new on release and that was a bit more disappointing admittedly, but if its at the stage where the entire lot is going to set you back just a fiver, absolutely they're all worth playing through in my opinion.

I don't agree that FEAR has aged terribly, I think it still looks pretty okay and the combat is incredibly satisfying. The Jupiter or whatever lithtech engine they were using was shadow heavy but a bit sparse...but for a ten year old game it's still fine.

Beta has been pushed until October 1st so happy days! Get a few more days out of it at least.

No nothing special when the game gets fully released.

There's a few sites you might be able to get one, google 'Rainbow Six Siege Beta Key' and sites like Ubisoft or Nvidia seem to be giving them, but people having a hard time of actually receiving them.

I actually received one but haven't installed the game. Reviews so far make it seem like a long oul waste of time

R6 Is an excellent game if you liked RavenShield/SWAt4 etc, if that type of game isnt for you then avoid.

Nail on the head. The game is a lot more paced than say Counterstrike, and it also relies (somewhat) heavily on Teamwork, your knowledge of the gear you use and tactics. I think that may throw some people off the game who want to just run and gun.

I grew up playing Rainbow Six (my username is a changed variant of Ding Chavez) and SWAT and loved these games, where I've been pretty much waiting for a game like Siege to enter the competitive FPS market.

No harm in trying the Beta and seeing if you like it. Like, how is this NOT cool? :D

Just found out fan translations have been done of the two last Witcher books.

Be a great way to finish my build-up before I replay the trilogy from the start again.

If you haven't read them and like fantasy and the Witcher games you probably should.

They're not amazing or anything, but they're another way to explore the world.
I think it's probably down to something being lost in translation, but the books have a weird feel to them - the dialogue in particular tends to fall very flat.

However, they're still great stories IMO.

Are there any other gaming youtubers like Errant Signal?

I mainly follow the likes of Jim Sterling and Total Biscuit and a few others, but I've not found anyone else quite as fascinating and insightful as Errant Signal.

I loved SWAT 4, was a great LAN game. Wish they could get it up on Steam or GOG.
