Have a charolais ram that gets seriously horny this time of year. Two years ago a neighbour found him on the road about two miles from the field i had put him in with the other rams. I see he had broke out again the other day into the ewes after someone left a gate open and he managed to get across two well fenced fields to get to the ewes.
It doesn't help that i have some dorset ewes that are the most flirty sluts that you could want about the place and stand near gates teasing the poor rams.
Won't go out here to 24th October.

Two teasers out since Saturday will take them out this Saturday and rams in Saturday week for 5 weeks. Worked well last year 6 not in lamb out of 78 including ewe lambs.

Out here 31st October, bit odd as scanning 20 pedigrees 10th October and will book scan date for January then. So scan date booked before rams are even released, must be getting old as I plan things now!

4th October worked well for me last year, so am planning on doing it again. Split the flock last year and ended up lambing for about 8 weeks. Going to run them as one lot this year and hopefully will be down to 4 or 5 weeks.

So you put the teasers in for 1 week, then take em out and then 1 week later proper rams in?

Teasers in here either Oct 4th or 11th
Then proper ram in on the 24th Oct

(My plans are a bit upset with work this year, as have to be away middle 2 weeks of October... which doesn't suit me)

Yeah read it somewhere so decided to try that way. Used to just let out a small ram for 24 to 48 hours about 10 days before the rams but he started tipping a few even though he was only about 30 kgs!!

Seen a video of both rams being auctioned on Facebook. I believe they both went up to the Donegal Breeders

If ram went out today what date would you expect lambs next march?

5th of March by my counting but you would be watching from the 3rd onwards. 5 month less 5 days for easy counting
