Lad's how many ewes do leave a ram to?
As in is there a rule of thumb 1 ram to X amount of ewes?

If it's a mature ram then 1-50 ewes but make sure he's working well incase you need another ram to go in, is it a new ram? It does vary, if the ram gets lame you will need extra ram power too!

Would let Rams out with 70/80 here no problem, normally don't anymore as throw April ram lambs out with them as have them so might as well. January lambs get 30 or so each

it'd usually be 4 rams and a ram lamb to each group of 200 ewes here,

Does anyone get their Rams fertility tested before letting them off? Always hear and read articles about 10% of Rams being infertile or sub fertile but I know of no-one round here who tests their ram. I don't either for that matter.

Local vet does it here, charges €50, but I'd only do ones that ewes were repeating on or if a customer claimed a ram wasn't working. Now that the pedigrees are gone and I'm not doing sponging and single sire mating, I won't have a clue, The rams go in bunches of four to the crossbreds, so it'll be hard to know they're all fertile

Put rams with the first group on the 1st oct and with the second group on last Monday....ewe lambs will be mated from 5th November.
Ewe lambs still have to be tagged and vaccinated before mating

Ewes in good condition come in heat very fast in October, I 'd always have 90% + of the groups lambed in the first 17 days

rams were put out last weekend (2 with 80 odd ewes)

hope to get them in and change the raddle colour this weekend

No, I don't sponge the crosbreds, I keep the rams out of sight and smell of them all year and then put them in the adjoining paddock 14 days before they're joined, so they are well primed and most of them will come in in that first 17 days

Ram gone with the ewes there this evening... Mix of ewes and ewe lambs.

Teaser was in with them for almost 3 weeks, so we'll see how we'll do...

Ram will only be in for 3 weeks, 4 max. So be interesting to see how the ewe lambs do...

Ewes in a group usually come in heat at the same time, so if you're unfortunate and they all were in heat last week, it'll be 17 days before they come in again

Rams out now for 29 days everything marked 29 in the first 14 and another 51 for the other 15. All going well and no repeats should be a busy but short lambing period. Ewe lambs will get to dec 1st and thats it hope it will work well there all over 55kg so hopefully.

Put in a llyen ram today into a field of 100 ewes. About 50 ewes ran over instantly and surrounded him. A few hours later I counted 5 tipped. The poor guy looked over run. I'll give him a few days to get a few replacements, before putting in a charlaois and texel to cover the vast majority of flock. Replacements are great but the butcher lambs form the basis of getting the bread and butter on the table.

Is this time of year (darker earlier) helping too?

    Definitely.
Using the rams to tease isn't as effective as if your trying for January lambs, ewes that already cycling will still not come in heat until 17 days after their last heat, but still I imagine that for the little bit of work involved, it's a help.
We put out rams to 180 ewe groups every 17 days here and we're not set up to handle them if the first group clashes with the second

Rams are going out today here. 2 mayo rams one mayo tip lamb. 1 lanark 1 lanark tip lamb charrllois ram and a Texal. Question for ye tho were farming some new Land we rented this year. It's a fenced in hill. We havnt gotten around to halting the big parts yet. But I'm tight for space and grass. I need to let a ram and a tip lamb into about a 65 acre block. Thinking a letting bout 60 ewes with them. I'm wondering will I have alot a missed ewes with the block being as big?!
