Anyone got this stuff growing on their land?

Few patches along the roadside nearby, and last week every clump had a sign erected beside it.
Farmers and Contractors are asked not to hedgecut it, cause Dept. Environment/Ag. are trialling a new weedkiller, and want to see if its a success.

What am I supposed to see no pic

Japanese Knotweed, he mentioned it just above the post.

Edit: It may not appear on mobiles.

I've mentioned Japanese knotweed on here before. It's long past time something is done about it. In fact I think it's so widespread that it's too late to eradicate it.
I see a huge explosion in it this last three years in particular.
Himalayan balsam is getting common too. It's not in the same league as knotweed though, it's relatively easy killed.

What is spreading it? Any idea?

Football final didn't burst into life yet. Kerry look a bit subdued.
Nothing like a drawn Semi to bring on a team!
Anyway 2nd half will tell the tale.

It never really got going, dreadful conditions for free flowing football, Kerry were outfoxed and couldn't handle the Dublin physicality.
My tips for next year are Kilkenny and Tyrone.:D:D

It propogates very easily from any part of the root left in the soil or carried to another site.

That's it in a nutshell. Add to this how vigorous it grows and how difficult it is to kill and you've a very serious problem.

We have dealt with Japanese knotweed on a site in limavady in Northern Ireland. Long term plan needed to remove it from site.
Its biggest issue is that its root will get in the slightest hairline crack in concrete, and overtime burst and crack foundations and walls

I think I've seen it sprayed and killed on a roadside recently - appeared to be completely dessicated. I think it will be sorted - it doesn't spread that fast.

Japanese knotweed - The experts say that you should not cut it either. It helps spread it. Roundup is the best option.

Hedge cutters wouldn't help there so

I see it on riverbanks and Islands on rivers spreading downstream every year.
I've also seen it sprayed, appear dead and come as strong again the next year.
I'm not aware of any spray that kills it with one application.
It's rate of spread isn't the real issue. It's the difficulty controlling it and ease of propagation along with the potential destruction it can cause.
It's not just Japanese knotweed, there's also Giant knotweed and a cross between the two Bohemian knotweed.

What's it's main issues. Poisonous? Killing natural species?

It grows really fast and is so tough it can damage buildings as the roots grow so deep. It will also overshadow any other native smaller plants as it grows in a sort of thicket. We have a batch of it at home, never managed to get rid of it.

Agreed. Had a bit in a ditch here where some boll0x dumped topsoil from their garden with it in the soil. You need a good warm sunny afternoon in aug or sept and don't spare the roundup concentration. This time of the year works best as the plant is moving nutrients down into the roots before the leaves fall off.

    Here's a bit about it.

If you notice the picture in the link above, it's exactly as you'll see the knotweed this time of the year in flower.
