Bertie Aherne got BOOED when he was introduced! You could make it out pretty easy. Oh the embarrassement in front of the whole world :D

    It is what it's.

I thought they were a bit slow in turning on her mike after she had finished 'singing'...

And the three girls in the Corr's, worth looking at them with the volume muted.

couldn't believe samantha mumba wasn't singing during her performance (at least it didn't look like she was). shame on her!
The whole ceremony was very well done! It was funny to see how little enthusiasm bertie got when he first came out!

Just caught the end of the ceremony on the TV, gotta say I was impressed with the fireworks display and the lighting. Looked very professional, nothing like the usual Irish crap.

Hire that team for next years Paddy's Day tbh.

Samantha Mumba was DEFINTITELY miming...... I have my suspicions about the Corrs too...

Good ceremony overall, though.... Paddy Kielty did a good job.

I was hoping for a f**king Colin Farrell f**k up, though.... "Good luck to all of you.... I know you'll try your f**king best!" (Didn't happen, though.... shame!)

Don't remember seeing Muhammed Ali, though.... was he at the start? And what was Eunice Kennedy Shriver fighting about after her speech?

    - Dave.

Samantha Mumba is definetly not all that she's cracked up to be. Looks wise, that is.

And I've met Andrea Corr, and she's rather good, but she's ****ing TINY! Honestly, she's about 2 foot or something! I could just pick her up and put her in my pocket...

...just great for those long bus journeys.

boo bertie everytime you see him, proper order

did you see when the presenter went to talk to damien duff as he lead a group of athletes out?

his fcuking bodyguard told her to "shove off luv" or something, I couldnt believe it, so funny

Saw a bit of it on Sky News and it sure looked impressive! I was fearing that we'd do our usual half assed job and have westlife playing a two hour set in front of a crowd of 6 people followed by a firework display courtesy of Moore St. But from I could tell Croker looked completly packed and a bevy of A-list celebs were there too boot!

Glad to hear Bertie got booed btw. It's all he deserves.

Just one final thought. After seeing Croke Park the track athletes are gonna get a bit of a shock when they see Morton Stadium (the venue where they will actually be competing) :)

I was there and no-one in the cusack was boo-ing him, didnt realise anyone was untill i read this. Oh well, no more than he deserves.

Sambo was definitly miming as were the corrs, but i dont think anyone was too worried about what they sounded like....

The best thing about the cermony was that as soon as the athletes were seated it became clear that they had no intention of keeping their seats and when the music started they were up and about generally having a right good knees up. Every so often 5 bulgarians or Uraguyans would wander over to our section and wave madly and we would wave madly back with our flags. Sounds a bit wet, but it really was a seriously good vibe all night.

Colin Farrel was LAMPED. He'd hit the bottle or had a good go of the columbian marching powder, but either way he made a tit of himself by proclaiming the event "like, totally, you know ... REAL man....real". gob****e.

Another great swordsman moment was Eddie "wanna see me yacht?" Irvine totally abandoning Azerbaijan or whoever he came out with to run off to Italy cos Jean Butler was there. Arnie also marched twice, with Austria and the USA but this was more motivated by his inevitable congress bid than an attempt to get into Jeans knickers.

Did the Macnas thing look any good on tv? It looked like amateur shìte from where i was sitting, but i have a low tolerance for them as it is.

Big cheers went to the Sars countries and Iraq , Ali and the Irish team and of course U2 (pride was amazing, altho the sound for One was desperate)

Oh and Heather Locklear TOTALLY checked me out.......

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 20,346 ✭✭✭✭KdjaCL

I flicked on after it started and was very impressed with the whole thing.
Looked very good Arnie even said "ill be back" how sweet.

Will net 2 show blanket coverage or is that it ??

    OMG! :p

rofl. Half true (second bit). :D
Don't remember seeing Muhammed Ali, though.... was he at the start?
Yep, he was in a golf-cart-type-thing. It was very enclosed tho. They coulda put a clear roof on it on something.
And what was Eunice Kennedy Shriver fighting about after her speech?
I think she wanted the bloke beside her to sign off her speech. But he kept saying 'I don't wanna'.
I could just pick her up and put her in my pocket...
    lmao :D

Yeah, that was really mean. Same thing happened when she (in all her excitedness) went to say hi to Arnold Swawhatever.
Another great swordsman moment was Eddie "wanna see me yacht?" Irvine totally abandoning Azerbaijan or whoever he came out with to run off to Italy cos Jean Butler was there.
So that's why there were two celebs for that delegation. Muppet.
Oh and Heather Locklear TOTALLY checked me out.......
    Go you! :p

There doesn't seem to be any substantial amount of TV coverage scheduled for the games themselves.

It was, to be honest, a fantastic show yesterday - even though I just saw it on telly.

    It is what it's.

My older sister is quite involved in the Order of Malta, who are doing first-aid duties througout the competition.

The point, according to what she was told, about the security guys telling the media to leave the celebs alone was that this was about the athletes and NOT because some rather cute female presenter wanted to get her arms around Damien Duff.

I was up at the Ireland -Albania a few weeks ago and when they asked everyone to rise for the "Taoiseachs Anthem" everyone did and the noise of Booing and whistles was hilarious, there was no way on earth he could have missed it.

RTÉ's coverage is pretty much non existant. they have an hour long highlights programmes every day at 7pm

I agree, I thought, the presenters going up to interview the celebs was BAD and a distraction from the real stars of the event.
It should not have been done and looked tacky and was rather embarrassing to watch.

I thought bringing out Riverdance smacked horribly of Paddywhackery.
I didn't like it when i first saw it and i like it even less a few years later.

    Like being culturally raped.

Wonder how the GAA felt about having the PSNI in uniform in their sacred stadium :D

Yeh I was to the left of the stage and didn't hear any booing for Bertie (though not much cheering). Really enjoyable night, full of delays and mistakes though with it being Irish I expected it ;) It didn't detract from the whole night though and I thought a lot of people put in a fantastic amount of effort. The athletes seemed to have a blast too which is what was aimed for most of all.
My bro said it looked very half-arsed on tv though?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,219 ✭✭✭oneweb

Naw, the only way it was half-assed on tv was all the ad breaks they took  And the microphones cutting out a bit.

Other than that everyone involved deserves a great amount of recognition for the job they did :)

    It is what it's.

Is it gonna be repeated on TV any time? I was at work the night it was on.
