You referring to when everyone claps when the plane lands? With an average of 3 rtn flights a year, for the last 20 odd, have only felt like doing that once.

I think they only do that when you go on package holidays and everyones drunk.

I clap in the same way I clap when the bus arrives at my destination.

Have seen it a few times on Knock/Dublin to London flights and on return. In fairness both Knock and Gatwick can be rough, although have only been tempted to clap once on landing there.

I notice it's only on flights where people don't fly that often.

On business heavy, frequent flier flights you'd get sneering looks if you started clapping on Dublin or Cork to LHR, Amsrerdam, Paris CDG etc etc

I get a thrill when the plane lands and my wife lets go of the vice like grip of my hand.
And a nice tingly feeling as the blood returns to my fingers.

Wouldn't attempt the mile high club so.

I boo and heckle the pilots if the landing wasn't smooth.

I've never taken a flight where people clap. Does this actually happen?

I find it makes an interesting plot twist

I'm not particularly fond of flying alone but on this particular occasion on a long haul flight I had the courtesy of listening to Ac DC's Hell's Bells while landing. I think the pilot may of forgotten to turn off the entertainment system.

Only when we returned from out foreign on 14/09/2001....

The clapping nonsense is bizarre and seems mostly confined to infrequent fliers.

If you want to thank the captain then just acknowledge him when departing the flight. They usually stand next to the cabin crew at the front of the plane when departing.

If I was ever going down on a plane hurtling towards the ocean at speed I'd start up a rousing round of sarcastic, slow clap applause

Why clap? Do people clap getting off a bus?

Yeah, and when I get out of a car I cry and kiss the ground and scream thank God I haven't been killed ...

Seriously tho, No, I´m not a ****ing idiot and any morons that clap when a f*cking plane lands doesn't have the slightest clue about statistics.

I still get a thrill out of a nice smooth landing, but sometimes on short wet runways with horrible weather at night, then its a bloody thrill to just walk away alive :):)

    Me neither.

Idiotic applause, whooping and hollering tends to be confined to cattle class. Can't say I've had to listen it to through the curtain into Business Class recently, so that's something. I've no doubt it still goes on though, more than likely amongst a bunch of red-faced savages on a charter flight to Playas del Sunburn. The sort who take deep pride on displaying their ignorance at every opportunity.

What have statistics got to do with flying in a metal tube surrounded by fuel cylinders at 30ooo feet?

If you hear the co pilot clap that's a time you should be glad you landed safely

When you see the co pilot going past your window with a parachute, you know you're fcuked.

Well if he does that after we've landed then he's not very bright

At 30,000 feet it's a little more disconcerting though.

I have heard it on charter flights for travel companies, Budget Travel, Falcon and the like. I always assumed it was more of a "Hooray! Our holiday starts here" kind of thing.
